As I remember the number got into the thousand. The host was one that was not attended to every day. This provision was put in place to stop that procedure. If my memory is correct.

Sometimes there is a lag for it to stop after you stop the gui, but you can force a stop by going to the task manager highlight boinc.exe under the "processes" tab right click & end process. This will stop boinc and should stop all apps. then you can reinstall Boinc, no work should be lost. If boinc is still running and in memory it will not be upgraded untill a reboot. Hope this helps

In windows stop boinc look at the task manager to make sure boinc.exe is not still running. This happen in older version, but have not seen this lately.
