Looks like with a little help from their friends in a conventional war (no nukes) the Ukrainians can go toe to toe with Russia.

This seems perfectly logical to me. Early in the formation of the solar system there were most likely thousands of potential planets circulating around the sun. It only makes sense that many of them were swallowed up by the largest object, other than the sun, in its passage around the sun. It may be news that it has been verified, but not very significant.
26) Message boards : Science (non-SETI) : Easy cheap ways to get hydrogen for fuel from water? (Message 2102510)
Posted 4 Jul 2022 by Profile Bob DeWoody
Post:
I have recently seen several you-tube videos showing easy to create apparatus capable of producing useable amounts of free hydrogen that is instantly used to run a small portable "gas" generator. One actually shows a complete construction sequence on how to build a hydrogen separator from common everyday materials (with the exception of a powdered chemical needed to be added to the hydrolysis chamber). Another shows how to make a simple hydrolysis container from a sock, some steel wool and a pop bottle. Are we being scammed? It seems that if extracting hydrogen from water is that easy we are missing out on the answer to our fuel problems. Any other thoughts out there?

So, the attitude by the mainstream scientific world remains the same as depicted in the movie CONTACT. We are a bunch of fringe living weirdos wasting resources looking for something or someone that isn't there.

I personally think that men have little or no right to take a stand against abortion rights. It is the one issue that could ruin a candidates chances of winning an election. All women should have the right to choose that path. They should also take better precautions to prevent pregnancy in the first place. I also would never council a woman to have an abortion, But as long as there are orphanages that are crammed full and there are babies dying from starvation banning abortion is absurd. Fortunately for those who feel the need to get one, many states will never make abortion illegal again as well as most civilized nations around the world.

We can witness a rare planetary alignment as seen from earth for the next week or so, if the weather cooperates. Between 5AM and dawn all seven of the other planets are grouped in the same part of the sky to the southeast. Uranus and Neptune of course can only be seen via a telescope but the other five are all visible by the naked eye. The highest in the sky will be Saturn, then Jupiter, then Mars and the very low in the sky will be Venus and Mercury.

Quite a while with no response to my inquiry. So I am guessing that SETI at HOME is dead, at least in the form that I originally signed up for. Too bad, for a while there I actually believed I was making a contribution to the cause.

A principled and outspoken Russian diplomat resigns

Boris Bondarev, 41, confirmed his resignation in a letter delivered Monday morning after a diplomatic official passed on his English-language statement to The Associated Press.

“For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on Feb. 24 of this year,” he wrote, alluding to the date of Russia's invasion.
...
“The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous and free society in our country,” Bondarev wrote, referring to the widespread use of the letter “Z” as a symbol of support for Russia's war in Ukraine.
...
“It is intolerable what my government is doing now,” Bondarev told the AP. “As a civil servant, I have to carry a share of responsibility for that. And I don't want to do that.”
...
Bondarev said those who conceived the war “want only one thing - to remain in power forever, live in pompous tasteless palaces, sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, enjoying unlimited power and complete impunity.”
...
“In 18 years, he (Lavrov) went from a professional and educated intellectual to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world with nuclear weapons!” he wrote. “Today, the (Russian) Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred.”

I hope he stays vigilant from this point on...

I hope he lives to tell his grandchildren about the time he said "no more" to Putin.

I saw an interview with Tony Blair on YouTube over the weekend where he stated that most all of western europe after the breakup of the Soviet Union had high hopes that Russia would see the light and choose to join the rest of of europe and even join the EU and become a participant in the economy of the rest of europe. He thinks that is why the rest of europe hesitated so long when it became apparent that Putin wanted to go back to the way things were in the previous century. It just didn't make sense as Russia has been earning a good steady income from their oil and gas. It amazes me that they can still be so paranoid about their perception that the west wants to invade Russia. Even now it just doesn't seem fair to the people of Russia to have to endure a return to previous practices. One can only hope that somehow good sense will come to pass and the current power in Russia can be redirected to a more common sense approach to getting along with their neighbors.
