SETI@home hibernation
(Message 2036806)
Posted 8 Mar 2020 by Henry Post: I built 3 rigs just for crunching SETI@home, the last of which was completed right after Christmas and puts out about 200k credits worth of work every day. This really does bum me out. I figured the work had to change at some point, I just didn't guess it was going to stop altogether. Although I signed up in 2010 (it was run on the family computer starting in 99), I only very recently decided to get back into crunching and wasn't privy to the writing on the wall from two years ago. It's a shame, I made it to 25th in RAC in a short period of time. I was ready to do work. The other space projects are magnitudes less inspiring than SETI, and I'm really going to have to think about whether I care enough to buy the electricity. It's that, or just wait and hope for something similar or SETI-related to pop up and shutter the "SETI Lab" for now. Sad. |
