Greetings, Jord! It's been a great many moons since we've spoken to one another. Anyway, many thanks for the quick response. As I mentioned in my post, this is my very 1st time using Android to crunch my WUs. As such, I had no idea that there was no screen saver (running graphic) when using an Android system!! What a bummer!! Have you (or anyone else) heard if they may be adding it in the future? I miss not having it lol!
Anyway, thank you again for the info.

Well, I just got back on BOINC & SETI after a long, unplanned hiatus. Forced to use my Samsung Edge 8+ for the time being as I lost all of my computers when my house burnt to the ground the day before Halloween last year!! Haven't had a chance to pick up a new one yet as I have just moved back into my house a month ago after they finally finished rebuilding it from the ground up! Anyway, I got all set up on my cell phone here & am running tasks BUT for some reason I'm not seeing the "SETI graphics" as it's running, like I would on my PCs (colorful graphs, fast Fourier transform, etc.) Is there something that I need to do different since I'm using a cell phone? Sincere thanx in advance for any help with this issue.

I, too would like to thank Eric for the update. I have been crunching SETI W.U.s, along with various other projects on occasion, since 1999. The volunteers, and especially the Project admins. and scientists like Eric, do nearly all of this work on their own time! Hence, the reason I felt compelled to comment on this issue. I've read a few posts here & there where people (usually newbies) were griping & complaining about the scarcity of work units and it just really P$&&#S me off! 99% of the time we happily go about crunching the data without a hiccup. And, people like Eric, work very hard to make sure that everything does run smoothly. But, when an issue does arise, a, albeit relatively small number of people, start complaining that the problems aren't being addressed quickly enough for them and that it will affect their "Stats". I just want to say to these individuals that it isn't about "You" or "Your Stats". Most of us, thankfully, see the bigger picture here. And, the majority of us realize that there are a group of dedicated folks behind the scenes. I think that certain people need to be reminded of these facts from time to time. I can somewhat understand those of whom are fairly new to BOINC not fully realizing just how much effort it does take. But, some of the complaints that I have seen were from individuals who have been doing this for a fairly long time. It's to those people that I just want to say step back for a moment & take a look a the larger picture. And, while you're doing so, get over yourselves!!

Ageless,
Just as you (and I) had suspected, installing a different version of BOINC fixed the problem. I went ahead with 7.4.8 and, even though it's a development version, it completely fixed the "bug" and I have had no further issues. Just thought I'd let you know. And, for the benefit of anyone else who may be having this same issue, changing installed version of BOINC works just as Ageless had suggested.
Many thanks, Ageless! I am....

Sincerely,
JC

Ageless,
If you'll read my reply to Zalster, you will see that I had suspected that this was the case (the issue with the BOINC screen saver that arose between v. 7.2.34 & 7.2.42). So, I will go ahead with 7.4.8 &, if you'd like, I'll let you know if it fixes the issue. Thanks for taking the time to put your 2 cents in!

Zalster,
Thanks for the reply. I did already try this & thats not what the issue is. "Ageless" actually replied to your reply to me &, if you read it, you'll see what I had suspected all along. That there is an issue that arose between versions 7.2.33 & 7.2.42. I was going to try going back to v. 7.2.32 but decided to post my issue on here first just in case someone may have heard of this problem. And, lo and behold, I saw Ageless' post. He suggests rolling back to v. 7.2.32 OR going forward to development v. 7.4.8 OR disabling the screen saver. So, Montie, I think I will take whats behind curtain #2 & try 7.4.8.. Once again, thank you for the reply, Zalster.

Hello All; I am having a somewhat similar problem. Ever since my machine did the update to BOINC v. 7.2.42, when my screen saver starts, instead of just showing the Running Process Graphic like it always has on all my machines for the last 15 years, it will show the Graphic for about a second then it will switch to a screen with a black background and the large BOINC logo with my taskbar at the bottom. Then, in about another second, it will show the running process graphic again for about a half-second with my taskbar at the bottom. Then, sometimes, it will show a screen that says something to the effect of "This computer is running BOINC/SETI" with 2 bar graphs showing the progress for each SETI task and the time remaining for each. Then, it just keeps switching between all of these anomalies every 1/2 - 1 second until my screen goes blank (because I have it set to do so after 15 minutes). At first, I was worried that it wasn't processing the tasks. But everything else is working as it should. It's just what it's showing on my screen when my screen saver kicks in after the 3 minutes that I have it set to that is driving me up the wall!!
ANY help will, as always, be GREATLY appreciated. I am......
Sincerely,
JC

Thanks alot, Gatekeeper. Thats a relief. I thought it was my system as, like I said, I just added BOINC to this new computer the same day I wrote the post seeking help. I should have known better and checked the SETI message board first! Oh well, I'll take your advise and wait. Thanks again. I am......

I am a long time SETI cruncher (since 1999). In the last two years, though, I have been very sick with Leukemia and had several strokes resulting from the chemo therapy so I have a hard time remembering and difficulty with thought process. I have a new computer that I managed to get my old BOINC installed on (Luckily I had written down my login info!!) but I cant for the life of me get new work/tasks for SETI. It shows that I have SETI as my only project, I just cant get it to work. PLEASE, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance. Sincerely, JC

I recently created an account with Neil Munday's site. I have been all over that website and, for the life of me, can't seem to figure out how to get the stat graphic to show up in my profile or message posts like it should.

Log in to the Mundayweb site and follow the “Your URLs” link. From the box corresponding to the account & style you want to use, copy the line under “-- phpBB Code --” and paste it into the signature block in your forum preferences here. (Remember to save the changes.) That should do it … post back if you still have problems.

Odysseus,
Thanks for your help!! I dont know why I couldnt figure it out before, but I've got it now. Thanks again!

I swear I've read every line of text in Neil's site at least twice and I am stumped! I'm sure it's something simple; my brain is just not processing the info correctly for some reason.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.....

and the reference is to??? [EDIT] because I'm considering it.

Sorry it took so long to read your reply, Philadelphia. I made that comment because, as I was reading the boards that day, I noticed a lot of people complaining about the fact that they are having to wait so long for the broken SETI computer to be repaired or replaced. I have been running SETI for 8 years now and this is one of only a few times that I recall them ( the SETI volunteers ) having an issue that took so much time to fix. Those folks keeping watch over the project work hard to make sure that we have a steady supply of work units to crunch. Yet, instead of thanking them for their hard work and dedication, some folks were just going on about how they're average is going to fall because they cant get W/U's

I got a couple hectic gigs this weekend (one Friday night in Oakland, the other Saturday night in LA)

Gigs?

I haven't heard that word since, well, the 60's.

Eric, are you as old/older than me or doing the retro :)

Had doobies back then too and they weren't the Doobie Brothers either :)

What do you mean you haven't heard the term "gigs" since the '60s? where have ya been man!! I have been a pro/working musician all of my adult life and many folks that I know, young and old, still refer to a job (weather music related or not) as a gig!! Just thought I'd toss in my 2 cents worth!! Oh, and by the way, to all behind the scenes at SETI, keep up the good work! There are still a great many of us long time crunchers who stand behind you and can appreciate the commitment you all have to the cause! And to those who are considering abandoning ship, it's a long swim back to shore.....

I am certain it is the server as the same thing happened last week. Even the message that you received "cant open file" and " transient upload error" are identical to what I and others got at that time.

Failing Uploads - again - since around 07:40 UTC

Is it the server or cogent?

There's no uplaods happening, but downloads are- so i'd go with the server problem again.

I'm glad that someone else noticed the upload issue, at least I know it's not my box. I, too have been able to download, but have suspended network activity as of this post just to be safe......

go to your seti stats and see what your upload rate is it might be 0

Daniel,
Thanks for the response. I think I figured it out. As I stated before, I just added this computer and, when I first installed BOINC, it worked fine. I then re-installed my firewall ( Zone Alarm Pro ). Thinking that might be the problem, I looked at the settings and noticed that the program settings for BOINC were not allowing it access to the Web. After correcting it, everything seems fine now. Although it did do the same thing on tuesday, but I believe the server really was down for a while that day.....
