The Russian Ruling Class. Be it Tsarist, Communist or Putin never changes.
Yes.
And Putin has now been in power longer than Brezhnev. 6603 days.
https://tvrain.ru/teleshow/vechernee_shou/putin_peregnal_brejnev-444761

btw. I worked with a Russian woman (many years ago) that used to see Brezhnev on the Red Square podium on Victory day.
For every year passing by he had many more medals on his chest and she wondered when he should fall over the podium:)
Well. It could be worse...

Mass evacuations in Russia as bombs were reported in schools and shopping centres

Hmm...
Perm: nine schools, a railway station, a bus station, two shopping centres, the city administration and the municipal administration;
Krasnoyarsk: seven shops and shopping centres;
Vladivostok: five shopping centres, a bus station and a dormitory;
Chelyabinsk: 10 shopping and entertainment centres;
Magadan: two cinemas, a market, four schools and two universities;
Yekaterinburg: a bus station, a shopping centre and an office centre;
Stavropol: city administration, regional council, shopping centres, schools, universities and dormitories;
Ufa: seven shopping centres;
Omsk: city administration, pension fund office, cinemas, schools, shopping malls, hotels;
Bryansk: more than 10 shopping centres
Novosibirsk: a bus station, a hotel and clubs;
Ryazan 11 shopping centres;
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk: shopping centres, municipal administration and regional government.

Sounds more like a drill.
Russia have many of those today.
Almost every town lies in Siberia.
Putin checking his subjects in the East perhaps?

The risk from Hydrogen probably isn't nearly as bad as people think it is. And the fact is Petrol is very dangerous under the right conditions, people have just gotten use to having it around & generally don't realise just how dangerous it can be.

The advantage with hydrogen is that it is lighter than air, unlike petrol, lpg and others. any leak is dispersed into the atmosphere very fast.

Interesting that we had this mention of Hydrogen vehicles, because the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has a story about Hydrogen cars today.
Hydrogen for cars.
For example, the tank of Toyota's Mirai holds 5 kilograms of compressed hydrogen. The car's range has not been tested in Australia but in Europe it takes about three minutes to refuel a tank, which will last about 550 kilometres.

341.75 miles, that's good.

Then you just have to find a place to refuel:)
It will take many years to resolve the distribution and infrastructure problems before we will see hydrogen vehicles.
But the US Army are trying the Chevrolet ZH2.
Apparently more safe to drive in enemy territories and Green as well:)

More threats from NK today...
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-missiles/north-korea-threatens-to-sink-japan-reduce-u-s-to-ashes-and-darkness-idUSKCN1BP0F3
A North Korean state agency threatened on Thursday to use nuclear weapons to “sink” Japan and reduce the United States to “ashes and darkness” for supporting a U.N. Security Council resolution and sanctions over its latest nuclear test.
The Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, which handles the North’s external ties and propaganda, also called for the breakup of the Security Council, which it called “a tool of evil” made up of “money-bribed” countries that move at the order of the United States.
“The four islands of the archipelago should be sunken into the sea by the nuclear bomb of Juche. Japan is no longer needed to exist near us,” the committee said in a statement carried by the North’s official KCNA news agency.
Juche is the North’s ruling ideology that mixes Marxism and an extreme form of go-it-alone nationalism preached by state founder Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of the current leader, Kim Jong Un.
I wonder why Kim thinks that the U.N. Security Council are made up of "“money-bribed” countries that move at the order of the United States".
Both China and Russia approved to more sanctions and they are certainly not bribed by any country.

Dandong City...
I guess China is very disappointed.
Building a bridge to NK to facilitate trade but cannot be used because NK have no roads to it and building the new city that is now like a ghost town.

- No, I'm not worried about being here. Not with the situation as it is in the country and not with the missiles either. Here it feels safe, there is a whole river between us, "says Yuan Xiu Ling on the seafront and laughs.

New Dandong City can already house 400,000 people, but most reminiscent of a ghost town. The 60,000 residents who have already moved here have lost a lot of money in a short period of time. Housing prices are raging, but Jiang Wei remains and hopes for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
- I am worried. Certainly. And I hope, of course, that it will be better. But it's hard to talk about these difficult questions.

a majority of the ROK wants to join the DPRK

I'd like to read up on that and become informed but having trouble. Could you point me to some sources?

Since a considerable amount has already been posted here in the links, I think you are a bit tone deaf. So I'll suggest you read some political coverage of the ROK government as a start, say the last decade.
You have to go back at least almost two decades to find a significant majority when there was not so much tensions between the countries.
South Korea's president Kim Dae-jung launched the so-called "sunshine policy" in 1998, aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, reconciliation and cooperation between North and South Korea to lay the foundations for a reunification in the long run and led to a summit with the leaders of the countries in Pyongyang 2000. [1] At the meeting, the leaders of the countries, Kim Dae-jung and Kim Jong Il, signed the June 15 declaration that both countries should work for a peaceful future reunification.
Support for reunification among the younger generations in South Korea has been seen by some as faltering, with the percent of people in government polls who regarded reunification as essential dropping from more than eighty percent in the 1990s to fifty-six percent.[14] Among Koreans in their twenties, forty-one percent agreed with the statement (and only about twenty percent of teenagers)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_reunification
That Kim Jong-un could be part of a reunification of Korea is out of the question.

UN Security Council has now unanimously voted for new sanctions against North Korea.
A total ban on textile exports and imports of natural gas and crude oil.
The sanctions are the hardest so far. Textile was North Korea's second largest export product 2016, after coal and other minerals. Nearly 80 percent of the textile was exported to China.
North Korea has threatened the United States, if they implement new UN sanctions, that the country will "cause the United States the greatest pain and greatest suffering ever suffered throughout the history."

Yes. The system Volvo Opportunity Charging has been tested for two years and they will start operating in next summer.
And in Göttingen Germany as well.
Looks to me that the system is still under evaluation though and that it is only suitable to inner city traffic. But you always have to start somewhere.
https://www.electricitygoteborg.se/en
Electric and electric hybrid buses are automatically charged at end bus stops. Charging is fast and normally there is no need for schedule changes.

• Volvo Opportunity Charging
• Roof mounted interface for conductive charging
• Fully automatic fast charging sequence
• Fast Charge interface installed on roof, 1.2 m rear of front axle
Fast Charge time 6 min/10 km range
Fast Charge power up to 300 kW
Maintenance charging (400 VAC) 4 h/day

Strange but if you convert 2.5 miles to km guess what the answer is
4.023 km

When I studied at KTH ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY that conversion is considered as an error.
2.500 miles = 4.023 km.
2.5 miles = 4.0 km.
See the difference?
If you cannot handle magnitudes and precision's then you are lost...

I used to live in a small city, in San Gabriel CA, a store was a block away, but that was in 1986, when I could walk a long ways.

Not being able to walk is a bummer for ever reason it is.
Only two months ago my GF had to amputate her leg above the knee cap:(

Ouch!
I almost had to have that done in 2002, instead I have 3 titanium screws in My left leg, 2 bad ankles and knees, and 2 dislocated hips, with OA, that's in addition to a stiff back, being 6'1" tall, about 416lbs, a hernia(My stomach is partly above My diaphragm), a dislocated right shoulder joint(OA was detected there at age 40, I'm 57, though I'm told I look like I'm about 45, w/thick strawberry blond hair and no grey, hairline unchanged since I was a teenager), I had to change My diet several times just to lose some weight, I hope I'm still losing weight, I need to charge the batteries soon for the scale.

Ouch :(
Hope you check your blood sugar levels so you don't have diabetes 2.
As for my GF who have it, it started with a small wound on her heel.
That grow and soon she got gangrene...
So check your feet often as well!

I wish it was that easy for me. The nearest convenience store (petrol station) is 4.023 km away. The nearest grocery market is 8.046 km away. If a ambulance is needed. Pray and give them 20 to 30 minutes.

4.023 km away? That's 2.5 miles.
We would say it's 4 km away. The extra 23 meters... LOL:)
Anyway. I'm a city boy used to have near to all.
My GF as kid though had to go 7 km to school everyday, Rain or shine, Snow in the winter.
