No outage again this Tuesday?

Yep, I guess no new tape-casettes will be added and we will chew on the validation backlog for 90 days.

Will we skip the maintenance this week too ? The validation backlog is still off the charts.

Who gets to crunch that last work unit?

Cheers.

My hope is that there wont be a last work unit to be crounched. I think most of us getting it wrong, when I browsing trough the forums I see people saying their farewells and goodbyes, meanwhile seti@home isnt going away. Its just hibernating, We need this probably to finally clear the validation backlog, and probably upgrade the server hardware to avoid the same problems in the future. I'm expecting astronomy and technology in general to grow in the following years, and I'm sure that more data will be generated for us to crunch trough.

Also this is maybe related to the problems with the green bank telescope, I've heard that the goverment planning to cut their funding.

Geeze, such drama when the crunching part of the project comes to its natural conclusion.
It's been going on for 20+ years, did anyone expect crunching to continue forever?
This is what was expected from the beginning, so why all the drama?

Not forever but as long as we find an alien signal so yes basicly forever 😂

I dont see any decrease in results awaiting validation, and its even getting higher every time when we go down for maintenance. Maybe Eric should just right click and delete them.

No they are not failing they are just short workunits they will get validated eventually.

So... I've just looked around and see there is no way to use my gpu to seti@home workunits.

Yes there is a hibrid app for astropulse but the irony is astropulse closed upp for a long time so I cant really try or join the project. CPU crounching seems to me very slow and also overheating my cpu, so if seti would accept ati for crounching then I could do it 24/7. I know that this is not the job of the seti staff or sombody like that because nvidia did their work for supporting the seti@home.

So my only question is, there can be hear about in the future there will be ati support for seti, my question is when ? Or sombody already started on working on it ? Can we know something about it ?

Yea Odan you're right I cant do it.

Just now testing the milky way app, I've done 3 workunits in 15 minutes and claimed more than 600 credit for that, so it seems very fast.

I just get ready with my ati radeon card to crounch astropulse but it seems its become really rare nowdays to get an astropulse wu.

Shall I start crounch seti@home ? Or wait for AP to arrive?

***Edit

Boinc sees my gpu, so maybe I could get seti@home units to work on it ?

yes I was thinking about only with CPU processing, but I dont know the actual seti status on gpu processing because I've read that you cannot use your gpu and cpu at the same time, but maybe this information is outdated.

So i7 920 is good priced the i7950 have almost double price and maybe I can reach the same result when if I overclock the i7920 one.

Hi There !

I want to build a new computer for seti home. What worth to buy for. Corei7 series are very expensive, but the 2.67 ghz one is very cheap and maybe have much power when its overclocked. Whats your experience about the core i7 processors, and is there a high difference between a 2.6 ghz procesor and a 3.0ghz processor in this brand ?

I'll try to catch the signal again and try to record it. I'm pretty sure its not lightning because its cyclic, I also try to re-estimate the cycle time. I'll let you hear when I'm finished.

Hello all !

I just want to tell you my old mistery, and you will see why I'm going to tell you this.

So years ago, I was allways listening to my radio. It was a radio mo-dem, and it was very veak so I generally didnt got signals in them. I detected a noise can be heard above the general noise, perhaps you know where its come from.

So when you turn on your radio, or your fm radio and swich it to where no radio stations signals here, you will get the sound like : ssssssssssssssssssssssss . And in this sound, cant remember correctly, there is a pulse, or interference, cant really explain what it is, but its clearly different and detectable. Its repeating every 21 or 11 minutes, I dont remember correctly. Its also been detectable from the car radio, and some older television. First I tought that its some transformator background noise from our electrical systems, because its all the frequencies and you can hear it everywhere. But I was on an empty field and still heard this voice so maybe it isnt coming from earth, perhaps its a pulse or an old neutron star perhaps, I never could research from what is this noise coming from. Seti working with radio telescopes so perhaps you can tell what is exactly is.
