When your on holiday this place is like fantasy island. but i work here so its not, but its still good.

Internet connection is not the best. 1mb is like $40 usd and you get 2 mb, but thats expensive and not worth it.

Maybe next year :)

weather here is always good, even when it rains its never cold :)

Just want to gloat a little... or maybe alot :)

I know I only have 1 pc, but under 1 year and number crunching almost everyday and night, I am now number 1 in Mauritius. :) :)

Largely in part that there are not many people doing it here...

But still just going to give myself a pat on the back and print off another certificate :)

I know its not that a big deal but credits are the only way of really showing what you are doing in the community.

So I am going to show off a bit in advance. At the moment I am number 2 in Mauritius. And I know there are not many users here but its still something.

Soon, in about 33 days I will be number 1. See Link.

http://boincstats.com/stats/user_stats.php?pr=sah&st=0&or=&co=Mauritius&hosts=0

When I am number 1, I will post again to say so :)

Hope its not going too far, but i really do keep my pc running almost 24/7, except for the odd reboot and when I need to snooz when im playing a game:)

So, here's to ME :) for doing the work in Mauritius.

Hi, im in Mauritius and when I go to this page to see stats it says that Mauritius is doing 5 Gigaflops.

http://boinc.netsoft-online.com/e107_plugins/boinc/bp_home.php

Mauritius is to the right of madagascar and is very small island.

Now I did some calculations to see how much of that is me.

And I maybe wrong but I would like someone else to confirm.

I started on 22nd July this year. And currently have a total of 31.26 quadrillion floating-point operations.

From what I calculated, it seems its all me.

Can someone confirm this.

Thanks

Just quickly, when i started pending credits seemed to get credited really quick and i would have like 200 or 300 pending credits and thought that was really cool. But now, I just looked at my account and I have almost 1700 + and I am sure that will continue to go up.

Basically why does it take so long?... If I have crunched (or my CPU:) ) why is it pending?

Thanks

Mine is a desktop and its on 24/7 except for reboots when it crashes or for updates.

where can I get this optimized version? I am running on 32bit xp.

I have looked at the settings and put everything on max ecept cpu which i have now put upto 60% cos I still work from it during the day. Ill see how well my pc runs and then try 80%.

also when I do DL the optimized version do I just install it over the old boinc version?

Thanks

Go ahead and put the CPU at 100% use.

The science application runs at the lowest priority -- only just above the IDLE task. If anything else on your machine needs the CPU, it will take priority, and the science application will not get any time.

CPU throttling is only needed when there is no other way to keep the CPU under the maximum temperature (usually, laptops with less than robust cooling).

Ok will put to 80% for now... I know my cpu runs quite hot as it is cos the fan is really bad and i Live in a hot country :)

Ill see how that runs...

I was looking at the top 20 computers and there is someone on like number 20 who joined in june this year with like 400,000 credits.

How is this possible...

This is NOT A COMPLAINT :)

I just want to understand. Im running a 2.4 core 2 and this runs like almost 24/7. Only been live since 23 july i think but only have 2000 cr.

Can you please tell me what is going on? or what is so different.

At this rate it will take me like 5 years to get that much.

Oh also i have set cpu usage to 40% cos I still need to work:)

Also he has like average credit of 8000... how is this possible? and what is it based on?

Thanks

My statement about a UFO was just as an example. It was not to discuss UFO or imply they exist etc. I thought it would make the picture easier to see what I was talking about.

What im trying to say if gravity has a slowing effect on an object (from an outside observer), would the reverse happen with anti gravity, assuming anti gravity is possible. Would it look like someone would be going faster?

I know from the point of view on the person inside the field all would look the same.

But then would that person inside the field looking at the world around him see everything moving slower?

The speed of light as mentioned above is still too slow for what we want to achieve. Our nearest star apart from the sun would take 4 years. This is just too slow to be going around to explore space.

Using gravity and its effects, and I totally agree with it being just theory, is the more realistic way to go about it.

Without that even if we could get to the speed of light, would deter most if not all adventurers. It just takes too long in terms of human life spans to be venturing out.

Again, even though we know its just theory at the moment, using gravity to compress space seems to be our only realistic hope. Even though its far from reality, no other forms have come up to point us in any other direction.

Im sure this might have come up before, but I wanted know people thoughts on this.

With an 'Increase' in gravity like when you get closer to a black hole, things appears from an outside observer that you are going slower.

So if you were in a UFO, and had anti gravity, would this cause you to be going faster. Even though you would be going at a slow speed.

Would this explain when people see UFO's them seem to be able zip around, accelerate and decelerate without having to worry about G-force.

Any thoughts or ideas that would maybe contradict what I have just said.

Anything that has any mass in whatever shape could not get up to the speed of light. The energy would be too much to produce.

This is may be a bit off topic, but if you watch things like star trek, stargate etc etc, you will see that they never travel faster than light withing their own medium.

Ie they create a bubble around them and in traveling quite slow compared to the speed of light.

Or another way to look at it is using gravity to compress space. and then you pass through it. A bit like the folding paper thing to get from one point of the paper to the other.

I'm sure that the speed of light in conventional terms wont be reached.

Yes, very true. Collecting portfolios and having a piece of more pies is important to the investor. But making them money or at least if you give them the vision that it will make them money, then yes they will invest :)
