I agree somebody should be counting the moons -- I hope that's what someone is doing, at least, even if it's amateur astronomers, you know? Because I'm not so sure I agree with this guy's supposition that it was a comet being thrown OUR WAY by Jupiter. I've honestly never heard of that planet doing anything but the opposite, i.e. sucking in whatever came near it, because its gravitational pull was so strong. So I'm a bit dubious there.

My other question is, if something did indeed hit it, then what do you call that? If Jupiter's a "gas giant" then what's the term for "hole" or "depression" in gas?? It would be a crater on Mars, I mean. So I'm curious.

So then, if there's fossilized bacteria, that might mean there's contemporary bacteria -- the extremophiles are well, extremely possible in that scenario!

Oooooh...

And that also provides another reason that, if life's found there, that life wouldn't necessarily have made it to space to find us! Humans aren't quite compatible with sea life (hell, we still haven't managed to figure out dolphin-speak)

Hi guys

I'm not on a lot, because mostly when online I'm writing (read: "mostly" LOL). But I figured I'd give you guys a bit of the stuff I do; when not submitting stories to magazines, I'm writing for helium.com. Found a couple today that I thought you all might like! (including a kitty poem...)

poem: http://www.helium.com/items/1007173-poetry-black-cats

story1: http://www.helium.com/items/1491137-my_first_love-spaceship-alchemist-computer_games-gray_goo

story2: http://www.helium.com/items/1492924-natural-disasters-storm-ice-snow-raccoon-ferret-bear-pretend-ether

Enjoy and if you want, let me know what you think!

"Do you mean this SLE"

I do indeed! Sorry if I've sounded defensive there; I just have enough of a personal guilt trip about not working normally anymore... I have to keep reminding myself that I can still write some, albeit slowly. At the same time, I know where others are coming from with regards to people and fraud -- it pisses me off too.

Absolutely true about the invisible illnesses... I have one myself! I'm not able to work 9-5 jobs and part-time jobs don't want you if your health is erratic (believe me, I know from experience). So I stay at home on SSDI and I write when I feel well enough to do so, and then I can take breaks during the day that I wouldn't be able to take at a job -- which is how I ended up on it in the first place. I'd love to be able to someday get off SSDI and support myself writing, but even in remission from SLE I still have a lot of CNS issues -- which you can't see unless I have a seizure in front of you. So yeah, I too go out every so often, I need a wheelchair every so often, I visit people and camp every so often. Just don't tell me I'm being fraudulent because you can't see the illness.

I at least think he's on a good track with some of them, like the healthcare bit and the stuff about unemployment... sure they aren't specific to folks with disabilities, but they do start work with the most immediate issues like the economy. I mean, nobody'll have money if the economy goes any farther downward, which stands to reason the disabled will then have it worse. I'm hoping he'll work on the disabled-helping stuff as soon as he gets the money issue clear (or near clear, anyway).

I have something similar going on, except in my case it's BOINC freezing my computer, seemingly, and it takes forever for me to get to the internet or onto my comp at all. Just started a week or so ago.

I like Obama's ideas on disabilities... as I wrote over on LiveJournal, though, he'll have some problems with employers who are afraid of lawsuits. We've all run into that one! Hell, I even had it happen once in college:(

I'm in MA and on SSDI - kept getting kicked off of it and having to refile over and over, and that was no picnic. The thing that bugs me is I've a chronic Illness and that seemed to make it harder, though my docs are competent enough. The worst part was when I'd get kicked off it and have to go to the ss office to talk to them, and my father would be out of his mind about "how is she going to live? she has no income!" and they'd just shrug. The issue seems to be worked out, but I'm a little pessimistic about it by now, y'know?

Hey, all, for the kitty fans out there, I'm sending this bunch. My bf's sister took them while she was cat-sitting... the "stand-off" pic was of Moku terrorizing her own Maine Coon, who's twice as old at least. Poor guy apparently wanted to play because he lives by himself, but our dear one -- who also hissed down my brother's dog while he was here visiting, and Dusty is an Australian Cattle Dog! -- wasn't having it. *sigh*

Anyway, below's a link to my pics! *G*See if you can tell the difference between the two cats.

Sadly, as I wrote to the defendscience people, I have a feeling that the reason President-Elect Obama isn't being too strong on the issue at the moment is that he's worried first about the economics of this country. Let's face it; that is the pressing issue!

Ok, now I write science fiction and fantasy. And I believe in aliens; otherwise I wouldn't be here at this project, right? Otherwise I wouldn't get all emotional sometimes at the thought that someday, maybe, we'll have a first contact scenario, and it's because I played some small part in it.

However, I think Taurus hit the nail on the head: whether or not you do or do not believe that aliens have already visited us, the entire SETI program -- specifically designed to help us find them and hopefully contact them in some way -- does not believe so. It's kind of why we have seti@home; the SETI folks are trying to broaden their search.

Believe me, I'd love to think aliens are here, that they've been here, and so on. I desperately want to think so sometimes. But there's nothing that says it.
