US Goverment secretly Sabotaging SETI at Areceibo
(Message 830096)
Posted 14 Nov 2008 by Scorpio Post: No UFO sighting took place before the advent of human flight. the correlation is shocking. Humans are misidentifying planes and weather ballons. If it weren't for crazy speculation about UFO's the History and SCIFI channels wouldn't have much to broadcast at night and on weekends. Throughout history there have been documentations of things seen in the sky. The ancient Egyptians documented lights in the sky, the Bible is full of "sightings" if you will, the Greeks, Romans all have. Whether these were optical phenomena, meteors, comets, or "ET"... (maybe it was an angle?) The fact is that there are some things we see that we can't always explain. As far a government cover-up, it's possible, but not probable. I'm sure the US has better conspiracies to cover up than Arecibo receving signals from other worlds. |

A thought that turned into a question
(Message 829832)
Posted 13 Nov 2008 by Scorpio Post: Ok, (aside from the sun and gravity discussion, which is very interesting by the way...) we are just hearing signals that are being emitted from space. Correct? We haven't sent any out that have returned yet, right? So everything we are hearing comes from a star, pulsar, quasar, or (maybe someday) ET and other spacey goodness. Gotcha! When you work night, like I do, some crazy things pass through the brain and they don't always come out clearly, if that makes sense. ;-) Thanks for the great discussions everyone! |

(Message 828612)
Posted 9 Nov 2008 by Scorpio Post: I was thinking about the signals we crunch numbers for and noticing the dates that they were received at Arecibo. For instance my task right now says it was received on Oct. 4, 2008. So when was that signal sent out? Doesn't it take years for it to reach deep space? And wouldn't it take years in return to receive it back? Just curious. I am sure this has been asked before. |

"Near miss" over UK and other UFO files.
(Message 823097)
Posted 25 Oct 2008 by Scorpio Post: You would think that actually seeing life, or a craft, from another world would be front page news. Yes, there are many hoaxes out there, but why keep a real siting a secret? What are these people and agencies trying to hide? Are they afriad of mass histeria? Are they afriad if they don't "take care of it" there will be some sort of invasion? I don't get why things are kept from the public for so long and when they are finally made public, it's too many years after the fact that no one really cares about it. The media is a joke like that. Just my two cents. |

Satellite tracking
(Message 822527)
Posted 24 Oct 2008 by Scorpio Post: So I used the http://www.spaceweather.com/flybys/ website. That was very cool, thanks. According to this website I think I am seeing the International Space Station. It says it has a magnitude of -3 and it's flyby is around the times I was seeing this "thing." I really need to get a telescope back! ;-) Thanks for the great info everyone! |

Satellite tracking
(Message 817136)
Posted 11 Oct 2008 by Scorpio Post: I live in Nebraska and every morning around 5:55-6:05am I see a satelllite passing over head. It's bigger than others I have seen with my naked eye, but it takes the same route, north to south, passing "near" the Orion constellation. I can't find anything that is around my area on those sites for those times I see this thing every morning. Anyone have any guesses? |

Strange atmospheric occurance.
(Message 816428)
Posted 9 Oct 2008 by Scorpio Post: Could it be a jett or sprite? I know these are caused by thunderstorms but can travel several miles into the atmosphere. They are most visible from high altitudes, like from a plane, or on top of a hill/mountain/ridge. Also, atmospheric optical illusions can be caused by volcano eruptions, storms, ice crystals, or polution and anything else. But like everyone else said, could be the northern lights. Sun storms also emit solar winds and radiation that can disrupt the atmosphere too. Anything is possible. |

Are our computers just sorting old data or are we doing work for real time projects? I was under the impression this was an on-going project, am I wrong? This bugs me. |
