Posted 1 Jan 2013 by Albireo380 Post: Hi Mark, We spent Hogmanay round at friends, having a good meal and a lot of banter. Our friends have 3 cats (Calico's) and we took them round a big bag of "Dreamies" (cat treats) for their Christmas/New Year - the cats that is, our friends probably wouldn't like the taste :)) Well, to say I was crowded out by 3 excited cats, scrabbling to get at the bag of "Dreamies" is an understatement. I think I have just become their friend for life. You and Lori have a good New Year - and the Kitties too. Tom |

RIP Sir Patrick Moore
(Message 1313254)
Posted 9 Dec 2012 by Albireo380 Post: A very sad day. Sir Patrick was a great communicator and astronomer. I remember watching "The Sky at Night" in the late 60s. I saw him at the European Astrofest in London a few years ago. He held an audience of about 2000 spellbound for over an hour. There was a very warm, affectionate feeling in the Hall that day as we had all been brought up watching him and loving his programmes. It is the end of an era and he will be much missed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20657939 The BBC News story is at the URL above. Tom |

Cheers Tom PS The wee cat from along the road has just spent a quiet evening with me, she got all the attention she wanted + Bolognese sauce from my plate and some "dreamies" cat treats. So she was a happy kitty this evening. |

London Olympics - what a waste!
(Message 1265231)
Posted 28 Jul 2012 by Albireo380 Post: Slightly off topic, what did the non-Brits out in SETI-land think of the Opening Ceremony? I am British (a Scot) and I sometimes had to think hard to get the cultural connection or the "in joke". Although I enjoyed the ceremony, my pleasure was tinged with relief that we hadn't messed it up in some big way. So .... what did you non-Brits think of the Opening ceremony? Interesting, confusing, boring, funny, quirkily British, or just a complete pain? One last thing .... whether you think the Olympics are a waste or not, they are taking place, so we might as well enjoy them for what they are. Regards to you all Tom |

I am only a year behind you and have reached the stage where I decrease a year in age for every year that passes (at least mentally) I guess that means when I reach 90 my mental age will have dropped to about 6. : )) |

(Message 1178935)
Posted 17 Dec 2011 by Albireo380 Post: I am 76 and shall be 77 in a few days. Girls I have loved in my youth are now old women. Mountains I have loved in my youth are still young and beautiful. Yes, the Hills are always there and waiting. I can still do a few more before the knees go : ) As for women, I find it interesting that the girls I find attractive need to have a bit of maturity these days. I would have thought them elderly when I was 20 years old. Isn't nature wonderful. Tom |

Posted 16 Dec 2011 by Albireo380 Post: What pees me off is that in my heart and my head I still think I'm 45, but when I try to live like that, my body says, Oi! d'ya mind, behave! Perhaps I'll try and negotiate a compromise deal to become a late 50's playboy .... I think that age 35 must be about the most perfect age to be. Old enough to have some experience and maturity, but young enough that nothing much hurts when you use it. I can still run 5km (3,2 miles) in 26 minutes, but my knees hurt afterwards and that didn't happen 15 years ago. I work out in the gym regularly, but the old joints and muscles now tell me when I am overdoing it. My eyes aren't as keen as they were and I hate the idea of glasses (giving in to middle age). But, my hair is thinning and receding - gosh I don't like being in my 50's - wish I could turn the biological clock back about 10 years or so. Still, I am fairly healthy and have lots to do, but being a playboy isn't one of them : )) (perhaps unlike Chris). Have a great Christmas everyone. Tom |
