Now I am trying to see what a new nVidia 295 will do on SETI. I heard they handle like a Porsche. And I like my Porsche's |

Seti needs more computing power...
(Message 698561)
Posted 9 Jan 2008 by Incognito Post: what we aren't paranoid? And just because you aren't paranoid does not mean someone is not out to get you. I agree, one of the major reasons I left SETI is because of the decrease in credit. After stating the the credit would not be lowered, it was. I pay of all of my electricity bill. And yes, even though searching for little green men is cool and all, there are several major issues going against SETI@HOME 1: The project is not stable. I can crunch for QMC for weeks and weeks and never have a outage or crashed server. Same as with RS, RCN or a number of other projects. 2: Project is not stable. Donation of our time, cash to pay power bills, hardware etc,, is still not enough and they must come begging for more. 3: Better projects that benefit humanity. 4: Credit, just because more powerful computers are available, and do more work faster does not mean that we can lower credit per hour, (then cry about it to other projects as David has done today) I will probably crunch SETI again in the near future, but not because someone needs more computer power, but because I like pain, and validation errors, and crashed systems, and unstable projects. |

What's with the pendings?
(Message 679163)
Posted 17 Nov 2007 by Incognito Post: Might there be a big problem with work getting returned from some machines in timely manner. I was told that pending credit should normally be about 1/2 of daily production. This does not seem to be the case. Pending credit is quite a bit greater than daily production. My pendings seem to grow and grow each day. Pending credit: 329,207.02 |

Posted 15 Nov 2007 by Incognito Post: Why can credit not be granted immeditatly upon return of the work. And if the WU does not cross validate when the second WU is returned subtract the granted credit at that time, and the offending WU is then reissued. IMO, this would eliminate pending credit all together. There are VERY few WU's that do not cross validate. |
