Help - XP x64 isn't making use of all 4 cores!
(Message 707065)
Posted 2 Feb 2008 by UBT - NaRyan
Post: Also check (if you are looking at task manager), that when you are on the "performance" tab. Click on view, CPU History and make sure it is set to "one graph per cpu". That will make it show all 4 graphs. If it's set to "one graph, all CPU's", you only see one graph and it looks like a single core system. |

Post: lol my keyboard is a not for peck typers keyboard!!! It's a Das Keyboard II Yeep the one that's totaly blank :) Confuses the heck out of peeps that use my computer. But heh once you get used to it your typing speed sure gets faster :) And boy does it annoy people. It does "click" when you type, but it has 3 different types of click. Light makes it go "clicky", medium makes it go "click", hard makes it go "clunk" So you can actualy play a tune while typing. :P |

Post: Heh I had a 1st time weird problem with a little sytem I was given. An AMD 2800+ Sempron, Asrock K7S41GX Motherboard & 512Mb DDR. Built it up, plugged in the 21" Dell monitor, switched it on, got the good old BEEP. Greeted with a blank screen. *puzzled look on my face* switched off Checked stuff inside, all ok. Switched back on, BEEP, blank screen (repeat several times) Got annoyed, and decided to switch to TFT so I could see if it displayed anything, as 21" CRT monitors take ages to display anything! Thats when I spotted the problem. "Secondary solo ATAPI device set to slave, for enhanced stability/performance, please set to Master. System will suspend in 3..2..1" Yeep the CD/RW was set to slave and the system was not happy about it so it would not boot.... So if it's an Asrock board check that one, Never had a system with that stupid "refuse to boot" problem before... |

What page do you leave Boinc on for the quickest work?
(Message 697346)
Posted 4 Jan 2008 by UBT - NaRyan
Post: A year or so ago, someone stated if you let Boinc run on the "Messages" tab it runs a little quicker. I doubt that it would make any difference depending what tab you left it on. As the program is hidden in your system tray 99.99% of the time :) And looking at task manager on my computer, during the 9 days my system has been running for Boinc has used 36 Seconds of CPU time. Prehaps if you left Boinc open 24/7 on a slow single core system, then the statistics tab would be the best one, as it hardly ever gets updated? |

Why is this in Optimized Boinc
(Message 695790)
Posted 30 Dec 2007 by UBT - NaRyan
Post: I was running the BOINC 6.1.0 V3 since Nov 30 until this week and I never find nothing like that... (a few days ago I switched to 5.10.28 becouse Fred W. is getting stats from my results to compare 'with or without' the affinity feature) It only just started today. And it's not just with Seti. On Seti it shows "Your Team" and on CPDN it shows "Team". but with CPDN it freeked out (boinc kept crashing). Even after I went back to 5.10.30 :( So I had to abort those CPDN units. Got to admit with all the problems with SETI, TSP and now CPDN, I'm getting a bit bored with boinc *sigh* Prehaps I should take a break.... |

Why is this in Optimized Boinc
(Message 695769)
Posted 30 Dec 2007 by UBT - NaRyan
Post: I would give high odds it's not a feature, rather a bug. A sched_reply_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml file contains information for 7 buttons to be placed on the Projects tab when this project is selected, the last one has the name "Donate" and I think that text is getting misplaced. The 6.1.0 code was very pre-alpha, clients built from it were not even released to the BOINC-Alpha test group.Joe On my laptop, the optimized Boinc has started to show something other than the workunit name. It's not showing "donate" but it shows "your team". |

How was your Christmas ?
(Message 695128)
Posted 27 Dec 2007 by UBT - NaRyan
Post: I had a great Christmas. Spent Christmas day with friends, eat way to much, and drank a ikkle bit to much Then the exact same thing on Boxing day. It was my friends sisters I was at, however my friend was working Christmas day, so she had her Christmas dinner on Boxing day. Heh I eat more those 2 days then I usualy eat in 2 weeks ;) And during my early morning walk (suffer bad from insomnia, so I'm often awake for 5 days at a time), to try and tire myself out, I found an abandoned kitten. Guess that was fate as per usual I managed to get lost (only lived here for 6 years, lol), and I found a black bundle of fluff that had been put in a tiny cardboard box, and stuck in some bushes. The Kitten giving the "I'm cold, I'm scared & I'm hungry" meow alerted me to her. So Kitten was rescued, taken home (once I realised where I was), fed, given some warm cat milk, and put onto my bed (electic blanket switched on). And after she scoffed loads of food and milk, and warmed up some more, she discovered the 1001 cat toys that I have for my other 3 cats, she played untill she could play no more :D So I got new cat, that follows me everywere, wants fussing all the time, and loves a big cuddle when I'm in bed :) So both me and Kitten had a good Christmas. I did get a prezzy from the kitten (on the bedroom floor), when I came back from my friends sisters. But meh it was her 1st day here, and was probably not sure where the litter tray way. That was her only prezzy on the floor, she knows where cat suff is now, and is already bossing the other 3 about :) Mind you I think for next christmas I'll mooch for a GPS, as geez I get lost taking the rubbish out :P Then again if I had not got lost a 3am christmas morning, ikkle kitty would probably have died, as it was -4'c then, and kitty was weak when I found her. |
