Lenovo Y50-70 has two GPUs, BOINC only seems to see one at a time
(Message 1756169)
Posted 14 Jan 2016 by ![]() Post: So I have a brand new Lenovo Y50-70 running Windows 10 with a i7-4720, and a GeForce GTX 960M (4 GB) video card. The problem is it also has an Intel HD Graphics 4600 that takes over if the better video card isn't required at the moment, so all GPU work is happening on the Intel 4600 instead of the GeForce. Is there a way that I can make both GPU's active, or at least get BOINC to use the GeForce instead of the Intel? Or is there a reason I should let it use the Intel instead of the GeForce? |

Quick fundraiser for SETI's new server
(Message 1036437)
Posted 26 Sep 2010 by ![]() Post: Dear David Hogan, Thank you for your gift of $10.00 via Visa on 09/25/2010. You gift was assigned to the following areas: SETI@home - $10.00 Your confirmation number is: 63195 I can't really afford it, but I figured it was more productive than complaining that the upload server isn't working right now. Great work to everyone who put me to shame. I appreciate seeing so many people willing to help something that to me is a great educational and research opportunity with so many benefits. I'd love to see what msattler could do working for NASA! We might be able to colonize Europa with his enthusiasm. Thanks to him, and everyone who made this thread work. You all inspired me to throw my $10 into the ring. |

Posted 7 Aug 2010 by ![]() Post: I don't want to be a complainer, but I have 3 PC's that I run for SETI@home (primarily), and CPDN and WCG when things don't work out. Since the outages have started, I only get two work units per computer for P4 2.8/3ghz computers. Even shared with WCG and CPDN that doesn't fill the cycles I can offer to SETI. At least my CUDA capable laptop soaks up some of the overflow. |

Posted 7 Aug 2010 by ![]() Post: Okay, I'm unemployed. I'll get that out of the way so people don't tell me to buy new hardware. I currently have a PC that's doing well on CUDA stuff (thank you Vostro hardware), but I also have a P4 3.0 ghz w/2GB ram and a Radeon 9600 Sapphire w/256mb video ram. I don't expect it to be much, but right now the ATI isn't taking any GPU tasks and is sitting idle while the CPU works. I'm using old drivers for compatibility with other things, but can I make this old 256mb vram GPU useful for SETI@home? |

How dusty is it where you live?
(Message 1001664)
Posted 8 Jun 2010 by ![]() Post: I live about 5 blocks from a metal working facility. Any open windows have an excessive black dust near them after a few hours open, so every three or four months I grab Q-Tips and clean out the fans and/or replace them if they can't be saved. This is in addition to using compressed air. It probably doesn't help that I smoke near them though. I've smoked around PC's, and this is a little more excessive than what I've ever seen before. I love my neighborhood, but it's kind of scary (even as a smoker) to think of what I'm breathing in when I see what my windows/fans catch. |

Posted 8 Jun 2010 by ![]() Post: Did I read that right? You guys pay a 17.5% VAT? Here in BC they are bringing in a HST (similar to VAT) that'll be 12% and people are on the verge of rioting. (And all it is really doing is tying together two existing sales taxes into one.) Wow. I thought San Diego's 8.25% or so when I moved out were bad, but 12 or 17.5%? That's just crazy to me. I love Oregon's 0.0% sales tax. |

Posted 8 Jun 2010 by ![]() Post: I'm getting a "Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server" on two PC's, but also shortly after "Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down." I disconnected my laptop then reconnected, it's having no luck along with that. My desktop is having problems also. Both are 6.10.56, whereas my other PC is 6.10.18 (I think, whatever I would have grabbed three or so weeks ago) and that's just giving "Project communication failed." This has been happening to me for about an hour now. |
