In Melbourne we are lucky in the we some mountains not too far from the coast which get a fair amount of rain (when it happens). We were smart enough to build our drinking water dams there which allows for some pretty decent amounts of water to be collected. Please see this link for our total water storage levels for the last 10 years. The increase so far this winter was almost soley due to one large downpour followed up by a few small sprinkles. You can see that last winter (2006) there was almost no rain during the traditional rainy period.

Our hydroelectric scheme, however, is playing to a different tune. Goto to this site, select the lake level calculator and plug in 2006 and 2007 as the selections to see how poorly managed (for water storage) the dams there have been. The operator of this scheme is out to make money and is not caring too much about the water level since they also have some gas-fired electricity generation which makes lots of money when the electricty price is high. So running the dams out of water is in their "best" interest.

Speaking of the price of electricity, since there is a severe shortage of water for thermal power plants, their capacity has been reduced which is causing the price of electricity to increase significantly.....just wait until this hits home for the average consumer. They're going to freak! Business is already starting to feel the effects of higher electricity prices.

Why make it a racial thing? A rich famous person has an advantage over us peons. They have the money to get good legal representation and thousands of people that won't believe the person they look up to is guilty of anything. Rich famous white people get away with just as much. Paris Hilton is a good example. Any normal person would have spent a couple months in prison for what she did.
