That makes sense, thanx. I posted in the Café about a WU, and they seem to see this as a better place to mention it.

From this WU I recently crunched:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=132629537

Work Unit Info
True angle range: 0.393930

Spikes Pulses Triplets Gaussians Flops
4 0 1 10 17340313055198

It seems to be quite a few 'hits' for one WU. Is this normal or average?

Sorry to disrupt your heated debate but I didn't know if this was worthy of another thread.

I have optimized my sys.
I noticed the estimated time being longer than the actual, and skipping seconds. How do they arrive at the estimated time?

I think the confusion was the two account access points, and the difference between profile pic and avatar. I guess I should have gone to the help section instead of asking for help from a bar full of drunks. Kidding.
Thank you all for your help (and welcome), and enjoy the rest of the evening.

I'm still here. I found the community section, but no forum section. I have the pick uploaded to my profile, and another member saw it there. I am going to seek forum the section again and check back.

Strange? I will leave it for a day or two before I phone Steven Hawking about it. Thanks a lot for your help. Time to get back to my knitting.

I am going to try re-starting my browser. If you have time could you see if it shows up in my profile? I am thinking they have added an approval delay since the time other members have posted their avatars without glitches.

I was kidding about the keyboard.
The avatar may have to go through an approval process. Someone else said to "format C: /u" I am going to try that now.

Wolverine was taken, and ferrets stink.
Actually my family used to be trappers. When I was working on a ski hill a few years ago, they used to eat my lunch. I finally saw one and it had my eyes.

Ask a question, post a video. I don't know if I am in the right thread, but the question is:
I re-activated my account and put the wrong name in. Who do I email to change it?
'Ron' seems offensive to too many people.

Hi Ron,

for SETI@Home, ~64 MB per running task is sufficient. More RAM will not get used, even if allocated.

For other projects, that's a lot different, there are some that need 1GB+ per task. When you set "use at most x% of memory ..." in your preferences, that's what BOINC will use (as a maximum, not always). If a task does not fit into the configured amount of memory, it will not run.

HTH,
Simon.

I am only running SETI and Rosetta, so I will leave it at 90+90 until I need RAM.

As to optimization:

There is a BOINC thread on BAUT that I just posted to concerning it. Their seems to be some interest in it for other projects. Is there a site that links to optimization of other projects?

Is there a shorter way/abbreviation for typing optimization? ;)

Got mine working with SSE3 P4 3.0HT. It seems to match the 2.67X speed-up listed on the benchmark site.

I don't use my sys for games or other heavy CPU stuff, and have dedicated 90% + 90% CPU to BOINC. How much can I dedicate, 99.9?

100%

The science app runs at the lowest priority, anything else that wants CPU time should get it. So the app will actually only get 100% of what would otherwise have been idle time. A lower setting should only be needed in rare cases, the BOINC developers have been extremely conservative in choosing the defaults.
                                                                  Joe

I screwed up. I meant memory use:

"Use at most 90% of memory when computer is in use"
"Use at most 90% of memory when computer is idle"
How much RAM can I dedicate?
