21) Message boards : Number crunching : Windows Update - Microsoft .NET Framework Update KB3186539 and KB4041085, KB4043767 (Message 1899228)

Post:
For some time Windows Update (Win8.1 x64, Core and Pro versions) offered me:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64 (KB3186539)

I made a web search and they said it shouldn't be installed, because something will be 'destroyed' - so I have hidden it (not installed).

Windows Update offered me now:

2017-09 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7 on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 for x64 (KB4041085)

2017-10 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7 on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 for x64 (KB4043767)

What should I do now with the old not installed KB3186539 update,
I should install it now, because the two newer updates will repair the destroyed part,
or I should install the two newest updates and let hidden the KB3186539 update?

Thanks

Here are the results...

Because for better overview - uninteresting I have made very small (not readable).
If interested - copy it to e.g. Notepad and it's displayed in readable size.

I don't think that the result is not the same. ;-)

The small difference because '% blanked' is 'normal'.

My/this PC is running with this setup since 1 1/2 years (October '15) and never got invalid AP results with (up to the latest 'stable' version) Crimson 15.12 (1912.5 driver in it).

AFAIK, this happen since a few years...

No solution possible?

1st and 2nd WU send out.
1st result came.
2st result missed the deadline.
A 3rd WU send out.
Now the 2nd result come after deadline.
1st and 2nd result validate.
3rd result come and get an invalid.

Is this 'just' an AP thing, or this happens also with MB (SETI) results?

No, no... ;-) My AMD Radeon R9 Fury X VGA cards use still Crimson 15.12 with 1912.5 driver in it - software/drivers after make invalid AP results... - because of my experiences with tests of all (7) software/drivers after up to Crimson 16.3.2.

After some time (1 3/4 years), which VGA cards with x1 plug are available now?

If I looked correct, this is the card which is available now:

ZOTAC GeForce GT 710, 1024MB DDR3, PCIe 2.0 x1, VGA, DVI, HDMI (ZT-71304-20L)

I have the:
ZOTAC GeForce GT 730, 1024MB, LP, Passiv, PCIe 2.0 x1 (ZT-71107-10L)
...installed. The above GT 710 would be a step back. ;-)

AMD's FirePro and NVIDIA's NVS could calculate also SETI's AP & MB WUs?

You know maybe other VGA cards with x1 plug which are available now?

Thanks.

Maybe you know the TV show 'Mountain Monsters'?

In Germany currently it run on "DMAX" as "Die Monster-Jäger - Bestien auf der Spur".

At the end of every episode you can read:
'No wildlife was hunted, trapped or harmed in any way in the making of the program.'

At one episode they hunted an injured Bigfoot after some time other unknown people shot and killed him and had wrapped him in something and have moved him away.

This and that don't match. ;-)

I don't think that this TV show is real.

Because of which reason they made/make this TV show?

What do you think - is this TV show real or fake?

Thanks to you both. :-)

I was uncontrolled over the weekend :o) - and ordered a 2nd VGA card (of the above mentioned)...
So GTX980Ti SLI would work later... - with a i7-6700K.

Very well for 3840x2160 (UHD) - but will 'just' play with max. 2560x1440 (WQHD) resolution - so higher FPS possible...

I think about 1920x1080 (HD) with 240 Hz or/vs. 2560x1440 (WQHD) with 144 (165 o/c) Hz ... ?

How it would work/look?
A 25" monitor with HD and a 25" monitor with WQHD resolution, I play the same game, how will look the surroundings?

E.g. a car simulator, the car have at both monitors the same size, but have with WQHD more pixels (sharper/nicer resolution) - or...
the car would be smaller and I would see more of the area, maybe left and right more and more further, see far away obstacles on the street earlier?

Thanks.

28) Message boards : Number crunching : GPU Clock Monitoring Tool - With Alarm If Downclock? (Message 1849065)
Posted 16 Feb 2017 by Profile Sutaru Tsureku
Post:
I search a GPU Clock Monitoring Tool, which make alarm if the GPU Clock downclock.

It's for my quad AMD Radeon R9 Fury X machine.

I still need to use the old Crimson 15.12 software (with 1912.5 driver in it).
Software/drivers after make invalid results for AstroPulse.
Also I saw GPU freezing (like dead) with newer software/drivers - in BOINC WU hanging with -177 error results.

But the Crimson 15.12 isn't without BUGs...
After a few minutes or a few days/weeks, one or more GPUs downclock during WU calculation.
It goes from 1050 in steps down to 300 MHz - and again up to 1050 in steps down to 300 MHz - and again from the beginning... - until I make a reboot of the PC.

It's easy to see because of the GPU Clock indicator on the VGA card.
But it's annoying, because I can't look 24 hours/day to this...

It would be nice, if I would have a tool which look to the GPU Clock...
If one WU finish and one new WU start, the GPU Clock indicator goes down (for 2 secs) - up (for 2 secs) - down (for 4 secs) - and up (and then the calculation start).
So it's normal that two times between two WUs the GPU Clock jumps down and up...

But if the GPU Clock make this stairway like downclock - so it would be nice if a tool make a 'beep' - maybe at a step over 300 MHz.
E.g. at 500 MHz or something, at a Clock Speed that isn't normal.

Is a tool out there which could do this?

Thanks.

BTW. I let run MSI Afterburner for a better fan curve.
This GPU Clock Monitoring Tool should work with it together... and not disturb each other.

I search a game monitor.

For my Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Waterforce Xtreme Gaming 6 GB VGA card.

This VGA card is fine for 2560x1440 (WQHD) resolution/gaming.

I searched a lot in the internet, but I'm not smarter now...

It should be at least a 27".
I read up to 32" is good for 2560x1440 (WQHD) ... - right?

Is a monitor with 'NVIDIA G-SYNC' absolutely necessary?

At least 144 Hz absolutely necessary?

1 ms reaction time absolutely necessary?

The monitor should be for all available games, like ego-shooter, sport simulations, and so on and so on...

It will be my first gaming (PC and) monitor, so help is much appreciated.

Which (VGA card and) monitor do you use, or you would recommend?

Thanks.

EDIT: I guess the maximum I want to spend is around €800 or US$863 (today's exchange rate).
30) Message boards : Number crunching : Intel iGPU 'HD Graphics' and NVIDIA 'GT 730', recommendations for cmdline settings? (Message 1840367)
Posted 6 Jan 2017 by Profile Sutaru Tsureku
Post:
I looked around and guess this should work with the Intel_r3541 and NVIDIA_r3584_SoG app... - or?

...for the iGPU 'HD Graphics':
-cpu_lock_fixed_cpu 3 -low_perf -spike_fft_thresh 2048 -tune 1 2 1 16 -hp

...for the 'GT 730':
-cpu_lock -instances_per_device 2 -total_GPU_instances_num 2 -use_sleep -high_prec_timer -low_perf -sbs 128 -spike_fft_thresh 2048 -tune 1 2 1 16 -hp

On the iGPU just 1 WU/GPU, and the GT730 with 2 WUs/GPU?

Maybe someone with similar hardware made bench test runs and/or have experiences which cmdline settings work fast/best?

Until now just 1 (AP&MB) WU/GPU on the iGPU and 2 (AP_OpenCL&MB_cuda50) WUs/GPU on the GT730.
Cmdline settings for AP (after bench test runs):
...for the iGPU:
-unroll 5 -ffa_block 1472 -ffa_block_fetch 368 -tune 1 64 2 1 -oclFFT_plan 32 8 256 -cpu_lock_fixed_cpu 3 -hp
...for the GT730:
-unroll 9 -ffa_block 896 -ffa_block_fetch 448 -tune 1 16 4 1 -oclFFT_plan 256 32 64 -use_sleep -cpu_lock -instances_per_device 2 -total_GPU_instances_num 2 -hp

Post:
(With good luck) I was in front of the screen and at my PC with Win8.1 x64 popped up a speech bubble, that the driver of the Intel iGPU (HD Graphics) failed and restarted.
In BOINC was running a *guppi* (without .vlar) on the iGPU (with outdated r3330 app (maybe bad cmdline settings?)) and stalled at ~ 1/5 or the normally calculation time of a normally AR WU.
IIRC it was the first time that the iGPU calculated this kind of WU.

If I'm not in front of the screen and driver restarts happens, where I can see a history of (Intel, NVIDIA, ATI/AMD) driver restarts (at Win8.1 x64, Win8.1 Pro x64 and Win10 Pro x64)?

Thanks.

It's possible to let run the SETIv8 Linux CUDA apps on a Windows (8.1 & 10, x64) OS PC?

(AFAIK, SETIv8 CUDA 6.0 and 7.5 apps are around.)

If, how?

Maybe with help of the BOINC/VirtualBox combi?

Or I would need to make a "Virtual (Linux) Machine" in Windows?

I have no experiences in this area.

BTW.
My GT730 with 347.52 (Windows 8.1 x64) driver can do CUDA 7.0.
A newer driver would help to let run CUDA 7.5 apps?
Which would be the minimum driver?

Or a (which) Linux driver would be needed?

(Currently I prepare an other/new PC with GTX980Ti, Windows 10 Pro x64.)

BTW.
The Linux AstroPulse CUDA or OpenCL apps could be faster in a Linux VB/VM in Windows than the Windows OS/Windows apps combi?

Thanks.
