Ok... it turns out there was apparently a driver conflict between MS (who would have figured?) and the Radeon drivers. I'd upgraded my video, then "upgraded" to newer drives that hosed everything. Reverting back to the standard ATI drivers restored my display but apparently something just didn't like the new config. I'll never learn... MS "suggested" newer drivers just recently so I tried them as my contrast wasn't completely stable and sure 'nuff, a trashed display again.

New(er) drivers from the ATI site resored everything properly and now MB works as it should.

Darn! This stuff is getting complicateder and complicateder!

Yep, I went down that street too. I'm using the drivers that came with the card as the ATI website driver update didn't like my card. Everything works just fine other than the MBeam display. I don't think its the card but now I'm wondering if a Doom3 reset did something to the GL; I'll look into that later.

The card was a trade off, its only 32bit but better than the onboard Intel that came with the system. My power supply wasn't quite up to snuff the run the 4600 64 bet series I wanted.

Thanks for the ideas...

I've already done that, thanks. You've explained why I was still gett MB and not AP so I'm satisfied with this. The damn opaque "floor" for the display is really irritating though... this I really want to fix.

I use the screensaver beacuse I think its pretty, kinda soothing in my urban environment.

I know what the display is supposted to look like and the opaque white is really an eyesore. Eventually, if I don't figure why its not translucent then I'll remove SETI.

I have a lot of unused up time on my days off and don't mind "allowing others to use my resources."

Now, anybody care to help me resolve the issue as to why the display foundation opaque in multibeam but not astropulse?

TIA

First: After making "adjustments" to my Win7 Dell 540 with a Radeon 4350 video card, The base of the progress display is no longer translucent, or semi-opaque. It's normal until any of the display options start to write then it becomes opaque, which is truely an eyesore. The rare Astropulse displays just fine. Any ideas?

Second: Even though I've selected in options for Astropulse only, I'm still getting MultiBeam projects only now. I don't want to run MultiBeam until I find how to fix the video problem mentioned above.

I'm an old tech, but still am confident going into the reg if its necessary. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling SETI with no luck.

Ok, I don't know everything... anybody out there who does?

OzzFan, you are correct. I'm too lazy to make the change to a previous version of BOINC at the moment, but, your evaluation of the problem and resolution are accurate. Turning off the screensaver password does the trick.

Maybe BOINC will modify this option in the future. It doesn't seem to be that big of a thing to be able to toggle the security option to allow a passworded screensaver to operate either the BOIC or application version.

Problem solved for now. I can toggle it at the system level, but it'll leave my system vulnerable if I forget to switch when going out on errands.

Thanx

Nooo... BOIC has taken over the SETI screensaver with its own. I also "upgraded" to the new BOINC when I needed to rebuild my system from the ground up. There's no option for the classic SETI screensaver any longer.

Just who's running this madhouse anyway?

Ok... me three! My SETI screensaver was working a couple of days ago, but now all I get is the BOINC screensaver with the SETI progress info. I want my snazzy SETI back!!!

OH... no system changes except adding a Samsung DVD burner with NERO stuff. Don't think that's the problem. Also, My system has been passworded at the BIOS and System level since day one so perhaps we should look in another direction?

Oops! Now I know why there's been no new work and Seti wasn't working... Duh! I'd no idea what was wrong until browsing to this thread. All I knew was all was OK on my end.

Hope you're up and running soon.

Don
