I know that the current state of BOINC for Android is a mess.

None of the currently available versions have the updated certificates since May 2020

Google Play now require that all newly uploaded apps to Play Store after 1st August 2019 must contain 64bit code.
From 1 August 2021, they may be removing support for 32bit completely !

I think the current Recommended version of BOINC is still 32bit, the Beta version may be 64bit compatible.

The rate of timeouts, and deliberate returns just before deadline , appears to ramping up, for the next few days or more.
It looks like this surge will last for around 7 days or more.

By this time next week, we could be down to around 25k Results out in the field.

There are 2 or 3 computers in the https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/top_hosts.php that are holding on to tasks until just before deadline in order to maintain their RAC.

This has been discussed elsewhere, and has caused some controversy.

Unfortunately it appears to be within the rules, even though it gives them an unfair advantage.

It also seems to be a waste of time and electricity, because the results that they are returning have already been Validated weeks or even months ago !

Results out in the field & Results returned and awaiting validation are both close to milestones

Results out in the field currently 101,203
Results returned and awaiting validation 150,265

There is another surge of Tasks due to Expire in the next few days, so Results out in the field will probably be under 50k in the next week.

Only did Main, not on Beta. :-(

I did ask Eric on FB if he could do both, I haven't been able to post on Beta since I started using my current 2 systems.
I have a lot of old Android devices attached to Beta that never got connected to SETI Main

The minimum RAC for posting has been updated by Eric.

I've changed the RAC threshold on the public forums to 0 and the total credit threshold to 100.

We will have to replace the RAC>1 requirement with a total credit requirement. We may also have to come up with an endorsement process to allow new users.

Thanks for your efforts Richard

Android needs an urgent fix, as most devices are not rooted, so it is impossible to edit the crt file on Android.

I have 2 LHC Tasks that can't report, with a 3rd one in progress.

Not sure about WCG yet, I've got some of those in progress on Android too.

Landing the first stage from how many miles up onto a barge in the Atlantic is quite some feat.
It was fascinating watching the second stage motor nozzle glowing red and the dark lines (presumably structural members).

To me it looked as if the initial acceleration was higher than the old Saturn V, but the actual peak acceleration was lower.

That's probably due to the Thrust to Weight ratio.

I know that many different sites and YouTube channels were covering the launch and the preparations

My favourite one is http://nasaspaceflight.com

Are there any active rendering (video/image) projects out there? All of the rendering projects I am aware of have either closed down or do not have any work

I'm not sure if this list is up to date https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_distributed_computing_projects

Discord BOINC Network might be useful too https://discord.gg/Bp6NpH

Just found some new contenders for the Oldest Workunits that still have outstanding Tasks https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8614221

5 WU's from 8th January that got sent to 2 unreliable hosts. They will probably be around until 9th June
There are others that will not finish until the middle of June here https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8926375&offset=0&show_names=0&state=1&appid=

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=3755716471 is not a long deadline Workunit, but it has still managed to have one outstanding Task more than 6 months after the WU was created.

It looks like this one will still be around until 16 June, almost 7 months after 23 November last year, and has got to be the oldest WU still in the database, unless someone can find an older one !

I asked Eric about RAC, a couple of weeks ago on the SETI@home Facebook group.

He said that he would be looking into it

I haven't seen anything officially yet, but I will ask again the next time I am on the group, unless someone else has already done it recently.

There is a lot of discussion about this particular accident on various aviation forums.

After about 5 days, it is fairly clear what happened, but not Why ?

It is certainly a very bizarre accident.

The approach was too high, too fast, and the landing gear was almost certainly UP when Both Engines were scraped along the runway for a few thousand metres or yards.

The engines both failed due to the damage, while the aircraft was in the circuit for a second approach.

I always check other sources in addition to the Daily Mail, but it's occasionally useful to get unconfirmed breaking reports on sensational stories.

I would like to recommend the short story https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nine_Billion_Names_of_God by Arthur C Clarke to everyone as they finish their last few Workunits and Tasks

I found it kind of appropriate, as we are getting closer to the end of the current search.

Many of the outstanding Tasks from the last days of the original replication on 31 March / 1 April are timing out this weekend.

Results out in the field have just dropped below 150,000
Results returned and awaiting validation are now below 210,000
Results waiting for db purging are now below 250,000

Even the "Top computer" now has around 9000 Tasks In Progress, down from about 20k a few days ago.
He's still returning Tasks a few hours before they time out in order to collect the points for a 3rd, 4th, 5th or even 6th Result, even though the WU may have already been Validated weeks ago !
There seem to be a few others in the top 10 that are doing the same thing, so the top few places in the RAC leaderboard are not really contributing any additional useful results for SETI now that >99.9% of the Results have been Validated. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/top_hosts.php

Meanwhile the final AstroPulse Results are still out in the field, but are well into single figures with 2, 5 & 7, but no change in almost 48 hours.

The next big timeout surge appears to be around the middle of June.
