Surely the 'weak' computers will be dropped once they cant keep up with the deadline for each workunit, isn't this already a limit to how slow a pc you can use?

Also how gutted would we all be if a 200Mz PII found the proof only to have the result trashed cos someone thought their pc wasn't l33t enough?

P.s Well baited with the topic title :)

Can anyone explain the difference between Astropulse and Astropulse v5, does one require more resources or crunch faster than the other?

Just out of curiosity really as I have all 3 selected on my S@H prefs but I only ever seem to get v5 wu's.

I double double checked my app_info file and low and behold, user error.....

All fixed now running 4 cpu and 1 cuda work units at once, with no cc_config file.

I would advise double checking you have the latest correct apps for your cpu/gpu combo and your app_info file is pointing to the right ones if you are using anything other than the stock seti apps.

After much forum searching and studying of my app_info.xml file I fixed things.
I am now happily running 4 cpu jobs and 1 cuda job....

9/10 its user error.....

I had stopped getting CUDA work units, until my return home today where I now seen to have a dozen or so queued up.

However the CPU/GPU scheduler doesn't appear to be working as I am crunching 4 CPU AP workunits and no CUDA MB workunits even though they are in the queue.

I am using BOINC 6.6.2 with wxWidgets version 2.8.7 with the optimized AMD binaries from lunatics. I am going to try going back to the stock apps for a day or two to see if the CPU/GPU scheduler works with them. I did read you had to edit the cc_config file to remove the old CPUcores + gpu cores and apparently boinc would work properly using cpu are gpu cores, but it doesn't. If you set the nocpus to 5 in cc_config.xml boinc just crunches 5 AP wu's at once and not 4 plus 1 cuda.

Am I missing the point somewhere along the line or is BOINC just not running as is should be?

BOINC 6.6.20 released for Windows, Windows x64, and MacOS X

Warning:
When you change over from 6.4.x and you run a cc_config.xml file with the <ncpus>CPUs+1</ncpus> option, you will have to remove this option or delete the cc_config.xml file and restart BOINC. The new GPU scheduler in this new BOINC will take care of this.

I have done this and now I only appear to be running 3 cpu and 1 gpu jobs, is it not possible to use all 4 cores plus the gpu on a quad core machine?

I've had to juggle between AP and MB on the Setiathome Preferences page in order to keep my CUDA pc stocked with the right amount of AP and MB for CUDA and AK_v8. When I start running low on MB, I just deselect all AP work on the preferences page till I get enough MB, and then reselect AP. When I finish the AP I have, I deselect MB til I get the amount of AP I want, and then allow MB again. After a couple of days I start the process oever again. This is with Boinc 6.4.6 (was the same for 6.4.5).

I have had to do exactly the same thing. When I had no AP work units BOINC downloaded 300+ CUDA WU's and no AP. Now they are done it decided to download 20 AP's and no CUDA.

What has changed? It used to work so well......

I play EVE Online a bit, or as my wife would say TOO #@&*ing MUCH!
I find that I drop about 10% FPS wise, and a lot more when a CUDA WU is starting, it seems to use more then the WU starts?
I tend to set BOINC to suspend work when the computer is in use when I am playing FPS style games, as I need every advantage I can get...... You can always set it back to run always once you finish playing.

My client still varies the number of jobs running with <ncpus> set to 4.
Sometimes its 4 + CUDA and others its 3 + CUDA. Something fishy is afoot....

Has anyone else had BOINC/CUDA running a different numbers of jobs at different times?
Some times BOINC runs 3 jobs plus a CUDA job on my quad core, and others it runs 4 jobs + CUDA. My cc_config is set to 4 cpus, and not 5 (to force 5 jobs).

Most of the time BOINC runs 3 CPU + 1 GPU, but occasionally it runs 4 cpu jobs +1 gpu. Anyone else get this?

I have had CUDA running since my 1st post to this thread, gpu fan set to 75% ( bit noisy) and temps stable at 42 degrees C. So far no snow on the screen and no driver resets by Vista. I have probably just jinxed it by posting this......

I have had a few stutters with a BFG 9800GTX 512Mb on a quad core box with 4Gb RAM so it may just be the seti cuda app that need refining. Not running CUDA now since getting lots of snow on my screen (at low temperatures), don't want to risk damaging my card.

I have exactly the same issues with CUDA.
It will run fine for hours, nice stable GPU temp of 59-62 degrees with the fan running at 50%-55% on my BFG 9800GTX. Every so often I get the 1 second black screen as the display drivers give up and Vista restarts them, but once you get the 'snow screensaver' the only fix seems to be to reboot the PC. If you CTRL+ALT+DEL to Vistas Taskmanager/Switchuser screen the snow vanishes, but as soon as you go back to the normal desktop its back.

Is there a risk of damaging graphics cards while running CUDA? As this snow effect is exactly how my last few gfx cards started behaving before they packed up. I dont think its the GPU temp as my logs show it never rises above 66 degrees.

I am running 32b Vista with the latest display(180.48) and chipset drivers from nvidia.
