I have a 4 core machine ... but it seems that Seti is only asking for 3 of those to work
On the other hand, I am crunching on all 4 for Seti Beta !
So maybe it is best to switch off until Berkeley get their act together ...

How I wish you guys would stop quoting OTHER people!
If you have something to say, say it ... and make it personal and unique.

For me, and however much I truly hated the guy ... ALL of you, please hear this ...
Saddam Hussein went to his death with a greater degree of dignity than I have heard on ALL
of these boards.
Would that all of you Monday morning quarterbacks had one tenth the dignity when YOU come to meet your maker.
I now relapse to silence.

The only possible negotiating postion is the MAD (Mutually Assured Destrucion) stance. Unfortunately, this requires a sane negotiating opponent. I am sorry, but fanatics of any stripe do not qualify as sane by any measure. And fanatics that believe that if they can force you into a position where you must use such means for survival they win are on that razor thin edge between fanatic and psychotic.

If you have a problem believing that anyone that leads a country could be such a borderline psychotic, then read transcripts of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speaches in Iran and other Muslim countries. Don't bother with the US media because they sanitize his statements for a variety of reasons. Read translations from Al Jazzera or similar sources.

You cannot "negotiate" at weapons point as your sole negotiating strategy. Soldiers and law enforcement officers are trained to draw weapons only with the intent to use them, never to threaten with.

Hyland ... if you have a cogent and believable thing to say, then state it.
Your post is crammed with supposition and your own view as to the sanity of the heads of state involved.
I could easily say (with a FAR greater chance of success) that GW Bush is so dyslexically incompetent that he fails the test to be President.
Either argument is unsustainable - and unsuitable in this forum.
Please grow up and smell the roses!

I've always considered it to be bad luck to have your Christmas decorations up after new years eve.

My Christmas Buddhas have all taken their Christmas hats off today.

I am still constructing myself to become a Christmas Buddha for 2007

I hope you succede .. For joy apon joy .. All sentient beings are Buddhas >>

I have a Buddha in my hallway looking towards the door.

He doesn't answer the door when the bell rings - he's not real; just a lump of nicely carved wood. Reminding me how odd people are to believe in this superstitious stuff. Occasionally I stop and rub his tummy.

Inherently all sentient beings are endowed with goodness, knowledge and wisdom.

No no, he faces the door for luck.

Is that why ... if you have an elephant figurine in your room ... you always point him at the door ... ???
(In THIS case, if he runs amok, he is more likely to scoot out the door and do less damage ... !!!!)

Es is the only correct one ...
12th Night ... or the Pagan festival of Saturnalia (the festival of fools) falls on 6th January.
This was subsumed by the Christian Church as the Epiphany, the manifestation of the divine nature of Jesus to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi.

Another explanation goes: Joseph of Arimathea arrived in England on 25 December 63AD. This was regarded as a Feast day to celebrate his safe arrival (much like Thanksgiving is celebrated in USA). Somwhow a Hawthorn (I think) bush flowered on that dat and on 25th December (the 10th Month) ever since.
England did not adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1752, by which time, the old calendar was 11 days out of sync ... this now fell on 6th January.
So the decorations - up for only one day in them thar days were taken down on 6th Jan ...
... or a tale very near approximating that !!!

Dunno ... perhaps because whomsoever it was asked for the thread to be closed ... !
Seems logical!
If whomsoever it was asked for the thread to be closed ... and asked for the thread to be renamed ...
"Dimblefootache splat (Closed)", then presumably, the Mods would oblige.
If whomsoever it was just said ... "Hey, just close this thread" ... then ... I suppose that's what happens ...
Whomsoever's wishes were complied with ...
Seems perfectly logical to me ...
But then, I am not a Mod ...

I understood your meaning Bodley, I was just trying to make a positive out of it! If Israel can't make friends with anyone, then maybe they need to be cut loose from the US's purse strings, before they start WWIII! The US seems to be Israel's most vocal advocate, maybe it is time the US backed off a bit and FORCED Israel to deal with its neighbors! And yes even Iran. Although Iran may soon have a new spokesperson. Admenijhad, or however you spell it, seems to be on the hot seat with his comments lately. The true Leaders of Iran are starting to say they would like to be more friendly to the rest of the World, and what's his name is not following that.

So far, that's OK ...
The fact is that Mahmoud Ahmedinejad ... is in power.
The Mullahs put him there. (or, allowed him to be put there)
More than any Ahmedinejad in this World, the people who do NOT want Israel around ... are the Mullahs!
What you say might be correct in the sense of a smoke-screen. But when that smoke clears, the
heirs to Ayatollah Khomeini will show their true colours ...
Are you ? ... are ANY of us willing to risk that?
Dunno about you ... but I have my doubts ...

The ONE concrete thing that America has succeeded in doing in the Middle East is:
They have ensured the moving of the Iranian influenced (if not controlled) border of Iran to within
shouting range of the border with Israel.
Well done, America. Good shot!
As a bye-note, it has also ensured a healthy trade for the makers of its own body-bags.
Just ONE more American life is not worth what the future holds in Iraq.

3) that martyr's are ultimately left with nothing when they have no one to remember them.

Let me say that many people today - and I am amongst them - hold Friday 13th 1307 to be a day of
solemn remembrance. For it was on that day that Jacques de Molay was Martyred.
His Martyrdom is remembered even today by people who have no idea who he was or how Friday 13th
ever became to be known as 'unlucky'.
BTW ... the Vatican has recently pardoned Jacques de Molay and apologised for having him burned at the
stake.
Big deal! ... that will not bring back a Godly and righteous man.
So much for Civilisation.
Can you think of an animal who would treat one of its own in the way we treat our own?

He got what he deserved.
I for one am happy that he didn't get a decade-long trial in The Hague,
just to probably bail out for medical reasons in the end.
Regards Hans
P.S: Irak is not Europe or the U.S. His trial probably was fair by local standards.

With respect, Europe, given its record is not in a position to judge what is fair or not. And the question of
"fair or not" is NOT one that can be regionalised. Civilisation, I was led to believe is World - wide.

Who cares about the legitimacy of the trial?

Well you should, for one ... if you claim to be a civilised member of the human race.
What would YOUR view be of a similar trial, with YOU as the culprit?
Please don't give me and idiot replies like ... "nah ... if I was guilty, I would accept it".
The fact is, you cannot cherry-pick civilised behaviour - i.e. take certain parts and leave the rest.
My comments were, and allways will be biased to a loathing for Saddam - but IF we are civilised, even
a loathsome creature like him should be treated by US (the supposed civilised Nations) in a way
and in accordance with our "civilised" mores.
And please don't make cheap jibes about "a country whose global significance has been overstated"!
You just might get some replies of that nature back in regard to Australia.

I hope Saddam rots in hell.

Well, of course, now that he is gone, I echo that sentiment.
I still aver that the method of it all was simply NOT civilised - no matter WHICH way you cut the cards.
To argue that it was their civilised way is a fatuous argument. For to argue that is to also call into question
the main plank (after 3 re-tries for an excuse) of GWB's reason for going to war - to restore Democracy to Iraq.
Iraq NEVER had Democracy ... EVER!
Iraq came into being the same time as Jordan did - and by the same mandate. That mandate was the blue
pencil of a man in the British Dominions office. I worked for him for 3 years ... and I know the facts of the
matter.
Nevertheless, Democracy ALSO demands a certain standard of behaviour of the Government calling itself
a "Democracy". It also puts a great moral requirement on the Government IMPOSING that Democracy. The
USA has singularly and signally failed in all of the tests for this.
And, as Dune says, watch this space for peace ... !!!!!

His lawyer is stating that if he had NOT been convicted of this Saddam Hussein would still have had a chance at the next trial of the murders of 5,000 others...and his execution was therefore unfair.

Leave it to a defense lawyer to come up with logic like that...lol
I agree with you R/B...good riddance.

Whilst I will never agree that Saddam was never anything but a bloodthirsty tyrant who deserved to be
brought to justice, can you REALLY say that his trial was "fair".
George Bush said that this morning. I wonder if his view would be changed if HE was the subject of such a travesty of justice.
Surely a deaf-blind mute could have worked out that the Court was "stacked" and that Saddam had no
chance at all from the word "go".
If that is so, and if such is the new justice system under the new "democracy" imposed on Iraq by
America - where on earth is the end [reason] for a Court System at all?
I happen to believe that no man has the right to take another human's life. No way, not for ANY reason. All
it shows is that those who do are no better than the criminals they put to death.
