1) Questions and Answers : Preferences : Changing preferences (Message 761380)

I'm having the same problem as desdichato. I requested serveral projects, mostly I wanted Proteins@home but also decided on Climateprediction.net but now for the last week the only thing that has come through is for Climate. I didn't realize how big the files were. Should I change my preferences so Climate has more resources or less. I have it set at 100 for it and 1000 for Proteins@home (which is what I wanted to push) with my Seti at 200, Rosetta 50 & Cels@home 100.

Help please

Lady Sirella

On a single CPU system I would suggest giving Climate equal to or greater resource share then the other projects. If you don't give it enough time eventually it will go into priority mode to make deadline and wont allow work from the other projects to be downloaded.

Note: proteins@home News

Step 2 of proteins@home is drawing to a close. The last workunits are availables.

I believe they have ran out of work today. There is no work available at the time of this posting. There may be a trickle of WUs as the last of them are worked through the system. The project will be on hold for several months at least. Just keep checking of the project's news/forum postings.
You may wish to reduce it's share when the work is all done and suspend the project until it becomes active again.

Ok, thanks, I have bumped Climate up so hopefully soon I will get some work for my other projects. I took your advise and suspended Proteins until they get more work.

Thanks for your help.

I might be in the wrong area but here goes. I have watched my manager over the years and I always have seti@home tasks running. For the last couple of days the only thing running is ClimatePredictions. None of my other projects are loading new work to my computer. Over the weekend I picked up 3 new projects and I was wondering if I did something that might interfer with the others.

Help please

I made it too. When I first started this I had a very very slow computer and I was wondering if it was worth it. But it's been a great adventure and with a much faster computer the work keeps rolling out.

Congrates to all. Keep the work coming.

I tried another project and it went through just fine no problem. Has anyone else come up with not being able to attach to Protein@home?

Have you tried making an account through http://biology.polytechnique.fr/proteinsathome/create_account_form.php or through BOINC Manager?
Did you get an email from Proteins@Home with your account key in it?
Can you log in on the site with the email address and password that you used to make the account?

(Hoping it is this Proteins@Home you meant...)

Thanks that worked and yes it was Proteins. I guess Proteins doesn't like BOINC Manager. Now I have an account and a project.

Thanks again...

This is a little different, I keep trying to add another project but it keeps telling me "Failed" "Missing Account Key". I have used my password, and copied and pasted both my account keys but so far nothing is working. The project is Protein.

Can someone help me on this one.

Thanks

Lady Sirella

Each project is independent with its own account keys. If you haven't already created an account with the new project then you have to attach as a new user not an existing account.

But you can (and probably should) use the same email address.

I tried to create a new account using the same e-mail and password that I have and it still failed and said "Missing Account Key".

9) Questions and Answers : Windows : Is there any way to recover credits on an older account (Message 329210)

Basically, I want my new account #8388429 linked to my old seti Classic stats.

If you still have your e-mail address of Seti Classic as well as your Classic password, you can still combine both accounts.

Go here, fill in your e-mail address of Classic in the upper part
and in the lower part "... or if you've already created a SETI@home/BOINC account and want to link it to your SETI@home Classic account:" fill in

the Email address of your existing SETI@home/BOINC account
the Account key of your SETI@home/BOINC account
and your SETI@home Classic password

and use the "link to existing account" button.

Well, I thought I already did that... But it seems to have created a account rather than linking anything. And what happens if I forgot my old account password? I'm thinking that since I forgot my old password and was trying all the variants I used on my password previously they just sent me a new account key for a new account, assuming I'd terminally lost my old password, who knows maybe I did?

Is there any way to recover a lost password? I thought someone mentioned going into the user_info.sah file or something. But I didn't see anything useful there, unless it was the value 'key=...' Which I tried but it told me bad password. And it was just a string of like 9 numbers, not like an actual "password" I would have used?

So, I guess I'm just frustrated, at this point. I've seen that 'linking' page too many times unsuccessfully at this point. ;) Every password I try comes up with 'bad password' or else a page saying my account key has been mailed to me and to use it to log into my account (that just takes me to the account that was created and linked to my classic data, but doesn't show any of the new work I've done on the other account I created a month or two ago...

I'll go re-read the other threads to see if there's a workaround to retrieve the old password. Maybe I did it wrong... I'm generally technically proficient, but trying to remember a password from like 5 years ago is daunting to say the least (though I don't think I've used too many permutations of the same one, so you'd think I would have accidentally remembered the right one by now??)...

Ohh, and before I forget AGAIN to ask, what EXACTLY is it supposed to say if/when you successfully combine your classic credits with you NEW account you created because you forgot your old password? 'cause I keep getting a "your account key has been mailed to ...@aol.com" (which makes me think that it's just creating me a new account rather than linking anything)... So, how do I know when it's actually linked and not simply creating a separate account?

I have all my credits now as it turned out I had used an e-mail that I had totally forgotten about. I wrote to setidba@ssl.berkeley.edu, included all names (old and new) and passwords/keys (old and new), and ask for them to do it. A couple of days after that all my credits showed up. Give this a try.

And now you and I are in the same boat, When I tried it, it said "mmciastro@xyz.com" not found.

I've sent an email over a week ago, with NO response. You could write to setidba@ssl.berkeley.edu, include all names (old and new) and passwords/keys (old and new), and ask for them to do it.

That's all I can do for you

sorry I can't do more, or I'd do it for myself LOL

Thanks Tony, I e-mailed them and it turned out I had another e-mail address that I had forgotten out. Once I used that one and the password, everything linked.

You are the greatest.

LaDonna :)

I have your password by using your user_info.sah in the form. if you need it.

You might want to delete/change some account data in your user_info.sah file by clicking on the "edit this post" link on the top of that post. So others don't mess with your old account

Thanks, I didn't think about that I have edited it.

I have my password too. I know that looks like my old e-mail account too. But when I've tried to use it to link the two accounts it says "No SETI@home Classic account with email smagic@mindspring.com was found".

I appreciate the help you are giving me.

Thanks

The "temp" file inside your classic folder should contain your email.

I can't answer that. I'd try linking your accounts before the shutdown, just to be sure you did everything you could to save them. I don't see them in your boinc account.

I have tried all the ways that have been posted and they ard just not working. I don't remember what my e-mail was at the time, I've tried every way possible, in the sah all my stats are there I got a password but then it says need e-mail. I've tried every e-mail I cam remember but none of them works. It looks like I'm just going to lose them. It's sad but oh well, I've got a good start already on BOINC.

Thanks

Have you placed your old email on the very top box and then filled out the middle OR bottom section?

Yes, and then it tells my the old e-mail is not valid. It might not be because I don't remember what I was using before.

This page uses the user_info.sah file from your Classic SETI folder to extract your Classic password. With that, your current email address and your BOINC account key, you can link the Classic account to the BOINC account from this page. Use the form in the third section.

Cannot link accounts.

I get one of several errors but the form to link classic to Boink does not function.

I get either of these errors. "Must supply email" which I did. Will accept only if I put same email in the top form as well as the bottom one at which point it tellse me my account key is bad. I copied and pasted it each time...no erroneous spaces etc. but it will not accept it.

I do have my original email and password but what good are they if they can't be used?

I need to find an email of an actual person at seti who can fix this and resolve these problems. If I cannot retain the work I have contributed since 1999 I will not start up again.

Ok I am having the same problem. I had to create a new account so that i could get into this forum. Anyway I am a previous user of Seti@Home for about the last year or so but for some reason it doesn't appear my account was linked to an email address. I have included all the info from the user_info.sah file, perhaps you can help me access my account.

I also am having the same problem, I just hope there will be some way to link the two accounts because I have been with Seti since 1999 too. I have already established a new project though and will continue even if I have to start over.

Hopeful
