I just dropped SETI in protest, seriously don't give people crap that volunteer their time and effort to help you...

This project would be dead without helpers, of which we all are...

Or alternatively, a client for locating the person responsible for him leaving seti, and poke them in the eyes?

i would + this if i could

They would need more than a poke methinks...

Its a volunteer project, each one volunteering their time, their money towards a scientific project, and then you go and linch them if they screw up once, or if you have something against them?!

So immaturity and egoes are creating issues over a project whose main focus should be searching for green eyed monsters?

Can't we all get along as friends in a common goal anymore? Is it so hard to ask, no wonder the world's constantly at war with eachother...

Well I cannot connect to it and I have just tried maybe ok for the US user but not us in the world.

Einstein@Home is back up and running. Because of the backlog of work that has been completed by YOUR computers in the past few days, our systems may be somewhat slow at uploading this completed work and handing out new work. So please be patient if it takes a bit of time before your computers are busy crunching away! Note: experience shows that recovery from this type of 'hard' failure can take some time; there may be new problems that appear, which may require rapid shut-down and additional corrective action at our end. But we will try hard to avoid this if possible.

In other words, its going to take a while to catch up with the uploads, so just be patient and crunch some more SETI units in the meantime :D

How much air conditioning do you really need in Wisconsin?

My experience after 20+ years of spending summers with in-laws in the Madison WI area is:

1) Summer temperatures in the +90 F region are common, and +100 F is not unknown. "It helps the corn grow"

2) Air conditioning sometimes comes free and uninvited in the form of tornadoes.

Free is a rather loose term...

Specially for tornadoes...

When you're dealing with air conditioning issues, it could be a while...the last thing you want is the equipment to overheat. If some of the equipment did overheat it could take a while for them to sort things out over there I would think...

Just wait a day...everything should be back to normal...

People get too crazy and hit the update button every few seconds which in turn causes the server to overload right after a period of downtime...

Now if everyone was patient we wouldn't have this mess ;)

All works out in the end...

Hope there wasn't too much damage...

I've been posting in the Lockup curiosity thread, but I wanted to start my own, since I've got apparantly idfferent issues than the OP of that one.

My AMD system is the one locking up, ad has been on and off for almost a month, though it's been doing it constantly since going enhanced. My Intel system seems totally unaffected.

Both are running XP Pro w/SP2, Zone Alarm Suite, and Spybot SD Resident.

By leaving my monitor on all night, I noticed this morning that the AMD isn't just ignoring input commands, it's totally locked up to the point that the system clock was frozen at 7:23PM. Check work units, nothing had completed since sometime yesterday, which would surely not be the case, normally.

As a control, I have run the computer overnight with BOINC & Seti shut down and everything was fine in the morning.

I then tried shutting down just BOINC manager, leaving boinc.exe & Seti running, and that locked things up, too.

I have not tried shutting off ZoneAlarm and leaving Boinc, etc. running, though.

I'm considering a complete reformat and reinstall, so any help or suggestions prior to that would be greatly appreciated.

Try disabling spybot, I've run into issues with system stability with that before ever running BOINC...

So what's new in 5.15?

Mainly a bug-fix for Win9x timer problems, from what I gather.

And even longer times...lol

I'm helping Kelly... This is her... friend.

Did anyone by any chance had your wireless router lock up on you and you had to unplug and replug to allow network activity to work within the last few hours?

I'm not sure if something is attacking our router or if it had some strange thing in correlation to this 5.15 SE app or if it was just dumb luck to correlate with this version update.

I think it's pure coincidental. I have a wireless router and I haven't seen anything like what you describe.

But maybe you should take a check on your firewall to see the log, and then run some antispyware programs, just to feel safe?

And believe me, there's nothing wrong with the 5.15 application, it has been tested out several days now over at Seti Beta.

Happy crunching. :-)

Yeah coincidental...I haven't noticed anything with the 5.15 file...

I don't mind displaying how much credit I have, or seeing how much someone else has accumulated, but as far as RAC goes...its ridiculiously blown out of proportion. The other day someone was flipping out because their credit had dropped by 10 points. Big deal...probably just a longer WU or someone running an optimized program knocked down some of your credit claims...Another thing, people are pissed about how long SETI enhanced takes and how much the credit system sucks...WHO CARES?!?! You are donating your time to a more precise science, as long as you receive some credit whether it be .1 or 100 you should be content with knowing that you are helping a worthwhile cause.

Wow, thanks for all the info!

At least I didn't use the whole bottle, seriously though there was none coming out of the sides, I did the one drop test initially and it didn't cover the whole cpu so i just dumped a bunch more on there...Nothing's exploded yet so that's a good thing. Only strange thing is the Thermaltake fan is making the weirdest noises...it was so quite at first, now it just makes noises like its struggling to maintain a constant speed...kinda a whirring annoying sound...

I was browsing through my results today and I noticed I had 14 WU's in progress, I went back to BOINC and my SETI@home has no work at all, none, I finished my last two WU's of Seti 4.18 earlier in the day and I've had no more than 5 WU's in BOINC since the enhanced came out...and now I have these 14 WU's supposedly being displayed in my results...

Results

Any ideas?

I don't think you should have any problems. In my experience I've also put a little more Arctic Silver than recommended, but I always made sure to put spread it to make a nice, even layer on top of the core. If you did that, you should be fine.

Cool deal, sounds like it should be fine...

Thanks

Hi, I just finished putting in a new cpu heatsink/fan assembly and I had bought some Artic Silver compound to apply to the cpu beforehand. Unfortunately I forgot to read the online instructions beforehand and after checking them after the installation I see I was supposed to put a drop of this silver stuff on the cpu, but I ended up putting more than the suggested drop. Should I be worried, is there any hazard with putting too much silver on the chip?
