发表于：13 Oct 2006 作者： Boinc_Master_2 Post: You're correct. Boinc 5.2.x, 5.4.x and 5.5.0 (that Boinc Master 2 is using) will not use this setting. 5.6.x is the minimum version to use that option. That checks out with my findings. Altering the settings as in my earlier posts has made no difference. I'll try it later when 5.6.x becomes the standard download. |

Processor usage Do work while computer is running on batteries? (matters only for portable computers) no Do work while computer is in use? yes Do work only between the hours of (no restriction) Leave applications in memory while suspended? (suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes') yes Switch between applications every (recommended: 60 minutes) 60 minutes On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors Use at most 50 percent of CPU time |

The RAC is rising and should top out at about 1000 from its previous 700 with the older chip. CPU Time for a credit of ~62 has gone down from 13,800 secs to 8,850 secs, and the RCF from 1 to 0.63. Is that about right for a Pentium D 940 running an enhanced app????? |

Yes If not, you may want to review this post and the following discussion - it's about a Windows modification, rather than drivers, but may be relevant. Thanks for that, the throttle setting was missing in the registry and the boot.ini reeded somthing adding. I'll run it for a few days and see what I get. |

It all seems to be running OK but do I need to upgrade the Dell BIOS which is A03, or any other Intel drivers. The reason I ask is that although I'm crunching 2 units simultaneously, it doesn't seem that much faster. As I've gone from 1x2mb L2 cache, to 2x2mb L2 cache, it ought to be. Anyone else done this upgrade? |

Nevertheless its fascinating to get a peek under the bonnet so to speak of how our workunits are crunched. Crunch3r's code apparently differed from Chicken's regarding some of the routines that were used, although they both were written to do basically the same thing. So it seems theres more than one way to crack the same nut, depending on how you tweak it. It would be interesting to know what Intel or AMD who design and make the processor chips that the code runs on, think about our use of their hardware. In fact, if distributed computing continues to grow worldwide as it has been doing, could we even see in the future, chips designed especially for crunching? |

I usually try and keep mine set so the auto run time is at night when they aren't busy with other user tasks. That's interesting. My benchmarks seem to get run at various random times. How do you set them to auto run at a set time? |

I'm not sure if this is part of your problem, but maybe someone else more knowledgeable than me can comment. As I understand it these units we crunch are maths intensive so the higher the above figures are, allied to L2 cache size, the faster you crunch. |

Spare Intel P4 640 processor

I could buy a barebones case, mobo, memory etc and build my own, but it would probably be easier to buy a scondhand computer and upgrade it. My question is what is the minimum spec of pc I should be looking for with a 775 socket and compatible chipset? Any help or opinions much appreciated. Chris |

Computer speed Vs unit issue

The app_info.xml file refers to 5.12 and 5.15 on both machines. Is this deliberate by Seti to put some units on more powerful PC's or just a mere coincidence? It doesn't matter a jot, just curious thats all. |

First observations on Enhanced Units

I only used the enhanced clients and apps because they were there, and others were using them. I'm basically in this for the science, but it is nice to indulge in a little bit of competition with other users to reduce the monotony a bit. With the two items you had before, you were overinflated in the credits you were receiving. A Trux client will not help you, because it now counts FLOPS, and has nothing to do with benchmarks. Your credit for a unit should match any other machine out there (or at least close). You gain faster by having a faster machine, because you will do more than the slower machine, but your RAC will go to a normal rate, instead of the extra inflated rate you got before. |
