Hmm. Just a month ago we were in the middle of a huge crisis and it looked like seti would be brought to it's knees. I gotta commend those people at berkely. And, I suppose having a new server has helped out too. Great job guys! Everything is running superfast now and I'm getting my credits as fast as I can send data back. I'm up to 6,000 credits a week now! Whoo!

My god. I set up a new m1264n on my account on 8/31. In just two weeks, that little somputer has returned more work units that my other machines have since I joined up on 7/15. The HP has got over 3500 credits allready. It's only got a 530J in it. I've got HT enabled and am running an optimized client though.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Athlon64 - Performance boost w/o Cool 'n Quiet (Message 167563)
Posted 14 Sep 2005 by Profile Shaun Neff
Post:
Hi everybody,

I have set up a new PC with an Athlon64 Newcastle 3200+ (2.2 GHz) and have run it for a few days now. At first I only got times for WUs around 9000 sec, which was proportional to the performance of my 2400+ at 2 GHz (around 10500 sec), but not better in spite of more Cache and SSE2.

Now I found that the PC was running on Cool 'n Quiet in spite of Setiathome (BOINC) trying to get 100% CPU power. This meant it always showed to be running on 1000 MHz instead of 2200 MHz. I turned off Cool 'n Quiet and now my time for the first WU after was 4340 sec! This is not due to the WU being specifically fast. The second one runs at 1,3%/min too, before it was always between 2,2 and 2,6 %/min.

So, everybody using Cool 'n Quiet should check if it runs properly on his PC to give Setiathome the full power available. If it doesn't, it can be deactivated if you want to run CPU consuming applications. After all this is a boost of roughly 100% in computing power. With the original AMD cooler temps are around 47°C at 21°C ambient, which is quite reasonable.

Regards,

Christoph

I'll have to give it a try

What about www.boincsynergy.com

But, I do agree with you on the fact that boincstats is a good place. The only thing is that it's not always correct. I think they only update once a day. Does that sound right. All I know is that at one point I had 3000 Credits on BoincStats.com and around 8000 here at the site. Of course, that was right after the validators started chugging big time.

What do you think the effects of Katrina will be on Seti? There have to be thousands of cruncher living in the affected areas. I know most of you probably don't agree with me on this. And some might just get plain angry. But, I think we all need to stop bickering and complaing over and over again about the servers at Seti. I think there are more important things going on in the country today. I dunno. I would shut my crunchers off and speed down to the affected areas if I could. But what the hell with it accomplish? Nothing...ah forget it. I still can't believe that this happened. In my opinion, this is the worst and most tradgic distaster to happen in the history of our country. Yes, I believe it's even worse than 9/11. Berate me if you want. I don't care. Ah screw the cost, I'm gonna head down there tonight after all.

No anger from me anyway.

You're right, there are more important things but:

1) This isn't really the place to discuss them and
2) I would imagine it's best to leave these things to the experts as first you may just get in the way and second you may become a victim yourself.

Yah, I know. That's why I put the warning in the subject. One post ain't gonna make a difference at all.

A mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, huh? That's a first. How many people is that?

Well, I know at one point they had well over 60 thousand people in the superdome. Probably a few hundred thousand all together. In the end, you've probably got millions upon millions of people who are being currently evacuated, or have already lieft the south.

It's great. After an increibly painful few weeks Boinc and Seti are finally coming back to life. Granted, it's taking a while for the system to do some things. But, @ least it's doing something and not just dropping connections, WU, etc... But, as the days go by it seems like things are speeding up. Nice..
