Unpredictable behaviour of the BOINC manager
(Message 434157)

Post: What I don't have the resources to do is to distribute the fix to - what was it at the last count - 800,211 users worldwide. What I did was to change the default of (0.1 days) for the "Connect to network about every" parameter to (0.2 days). The result I got is that the BOINC manager immediately downloaded the entire daily quota. However, I expected it would load 2 WU's instead of 1 as it usually does. It was reproducible with 2 versions of the client, including 5.4.11, 2 different computers, 2 OS's and 4 projects. I think the algorithm that does the calculation in the client is the issue. Should be something simple, like integers instead of floating point. This should be fixed, as it causes a lot of extra load on the servers and the processing is slowed down due to those WU's that only wait for their deadline to expire. Well, I installed 5.6.5, and it does not reproduce the problem. I presume it has been fixed. ;-) |

Unpredictable behaviour of the BOINC manager

Post: Hi, The other day I tried to change the default setting of "Connect to network about every" "0.1 days" in "General Preferences" to something else; this caused the BOINC manager to immediately load a total number of work units equal to "Maximum daily WU quota per CPU", which was "100/day" or something similar, depending on the computer and the project. This is an obvious error, because: 1) There is no way my computer could process that many WU's before the deadline; 2) I could not discover any obvious way to change the value of the "Maximum daily WU quota per CPU" parameter. I noticed that I'm not the only one to have this problem, which causes a lot of extra unnecessary internet traffic and eventually slows down the processing. I hope someone will look at this issue, which should be common to all the projects that use BOINC framework. Cheers, Igor |

boinc does not get work from seti@home
(Message 303397)

Post: Several days ago boinc stopped to receive work from seti@home. I suspect this is due to the introduction of the ADVANCED version, as Einstein is working, and boinc on a second computer is OK too. What should I do? |
