98) Message boards : Number crunching : Rig on the BENCH (Message 998197) Posted 23 May 2010 by FiveHamlet Post: Well Rig on a Bench had been performing really well and as of this latest SETI problem had got to #2. I must say now that MJS turning off his rigs made the difference. Two nights ago R.O.A.B. started having a problem,it kept shutting down. At first I thought it was just temperature problems,so I moved it downstairs. It still proceeded to shut down and the time between got progresivly shorter,so I started the investigation. Power supply seemed to be going of so I checked it and all voltages were normal. When powering up leds on mobo and fans ran but CPU fan didn't and no booting. I decided to put a spare PSU on it to the rig to try it out. Upon trying to incert the 24 pin plug onto the mobo it would not fit,retried the old psu and it did. Looking at the plug I then noticed that socket 13 and 14 had burnt the plastic away,some of it was still in the mobo socket. Don't know which failed first mobo or PSU. What to do suggestions please: 1 Buy new PSU and clean socket on mobo and hope for best,but another bad connection may result in new PSU fails plus mobo. 2 Buy new PSU and mobo to be on safe side. 3 Repair if possible the PSU by replacing 24 pin connector if available. As you can emagine I would like to get it running again A.S.A.P. Dave

Just made 49k but have temp issues here.PSU on rig shut down.82f in room. May have to move it downstairs it is cooler,but not for long when it runs.
