Post: I see 3 different RAC numbers on my computer. 1. BOINC program: Currently shows 897.75 2. S@H Account Data (website) shows 909.49 3. S@H Account page (website) shows 920.47 I understand that RAC changes very often, but these three above have never been in sync. |

Cannot report WU's
(Message 848824)
Posted 3 Jan 2009 by bushrat
Post: After last week's server outage, I decided to increase my work buffer to 4 days. With that, it downloaded 78 wu's on my system. Now, I am half-way done crunching, but the wu's will not report to the server. My network communication is set to 0.05 days (so it pretty much reports soon after some wu's are done), but nothing is reporting. Even after pressing "Do Network Communication", nothing is happening in Message tab. It's like the damn thing is ignoring me. Everything worked fine before the server outage. Aby help would be appriciated.. Edit: In the Activity menu-drop, I got selected "Network activity always available." |

Ideas for future BOINC
(Message 847621)
Posted 1 Jan 2009 by bushrat
Post: I know I can't ask for much, but there are few things that I would like to see done to next version of BOINC. - Shell/Core design - instead of downloading new version of BOINC everytime it comes out, I would suggest creating shell program and core seperate. That way, everyone would be up-to-date on new version. Once a week/month, BOINC would check for new version, and if one is available, it would download it and install it. - Implement optimized clients - BOINC developers should choose the best optimized client, and make it part of downloaded core (see above). I belive current version of BOINC has capability to detect what type of CPU someone is running, and based on that, optimized client for particular CPU type can be automaticcaly downloaded. If anyone else has any ideas, post them here. They may get in the next version. If I am wrong on something, please correct me. |

Thank you Robert for the best explanation, and I agree with you. As times change, so should the laws. When the cars were first indroduced on public roads, I bet that people opposed them. "That autonomous machine has no eyes and no mind. It will drive over people, it will kill us!!" Sometimes change is good. Isn't that what Obama promised? "Change"? Apparently, a lot of people want that. |

Post: I think they should legalize it for recreational use, and make the laws same as alcohol: - no one under 21 - no driving or operating any machinery - not at work while under influence. - no private sales. At this time, America could use any tax dollars they can get their hands on. The tax collected on marijuana could rival cigarette tax. If it makes "mindless zmbies" out of the users, then let it happen. They would be easier to recognize in public. (I personally don't think it would create "zombies", unless they are lazy already.) Some people claim than Marijuana has no medical use. Are there any medical use for cigarettes or alcohol? There are medical uses for marijuana, just not very popular. I have never heard a doctor say "You need to smoke more cigarettes and drink about 6-pack a day" According to Wikipedia, Marijuana is less addicting than alcohol or cigarettes. Yes, I tried a few joins, but it was easy for me to stop, and that was 15 years ago. I also stopped drinking alcohol 5 years ago, and that was lightly addictive. Cigarettes on the other hand, are a hard habit to drop. I am still wroking on it. |

Post: Alright, I copied file AK_v8.0_Win32_SSE3.zip (whatever was in "files to install" directory) from Crunch3r's page into my driectory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu .It seems like it cut down my time from about 5 hours per unit to about 1.75 hours per unit. I am not sure if this can be faster, but if it can be, please let me know how. XLM file has not been modified. For info, my PC is here http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4680033 |

Post: According to CPU-Z, I have AMD Phenom x4 9850 Black Edition CPU. I am running Win XP Pro edition. After long pause, I wanted to run Seti@Home again. I downloaded Boinc 6.2.19 I was trying to get optimized version of Boinc for my processor. After reading this forum, I found Crunch3r's page, and downloaded these: Boinc client - http://calbe.dw70.de/boinc/Boinc_6.1.0.32_v5_release_x86.zip Seti@Home - http://calbe.dw70.de/AKV8/AK_v8.0_Win32_SSE3.zip Someone please be kind, and explain to me to make them work. After I tried to install them my self, it messed up my 6.2.19 version, and had to re-install it. |
