I say you can't go faster then light IN SPACE, but you may be able to go around space. Space contains an 'infinite' zero point energy. Maybe the zero point energy creates volume (not unlike the ideal gas law, on a quantum level). In that case, if you removed the energy out of space in front of you and replaced it behind you, every one would think you were moving. In fact you would not be accelerating, but the distance between you and other objects would change. Periodically people talk about extracting the zero point energy as an infinite power source (there was a poster presented at a joint NREL/CU conference a couple weeks ago). I think when you extract the energy, you extract the volume of space.
