I guess he means AP/V7 tasks. Looks like V7 started splitting, so those may soon be available to GPU-crunchers.

(Almost) only V8 tasks available at the moment but there are no official V8 GPU-apps yet.

I know Mike. Still, I use all kind of computers since many, many years and I have seen great alpha- (and beta) versions of all kind of programms and I have seen so called "stable" builds which sucked in every way possible.

may I remind all and sunder that ALL GPU apps are still in ALPHA?

that means IF you run them you need to pay VERY CLOSE attention to your hosts and report invalids and inconclusives that look like they will go invalid. Alpha apps are very likely to still have problems. Only when they have been promoted to beta the dev is fairly certain they are good. (and sometimes not even then).

IOW when you run an alpha app you need to be aware that you are TESTING it.
When you have the hood open on the car, you wouldn't let your kid behind the wheel, now would you?
Just running an alpha app is irresponsible. You might as well give the car keys to your kid when you are not sure the brakes work.

I don;t want to discourage people to alpha test. I just want to make sure you know exactly what you are doing, why you are doing it and what you need to look out for when doing it.

Well, ppl will go for it because there are no other tasks available for GPUs. My machine sits idle for 2 days now.
And just because it's alpha doesn't mean it sucks. I run an V7 alpha build since month and I haven't seen a single invalid or any other problem with it.

We got sucked into the hype. Eric and I decided that we just couldn't wait until after the holidays, so we went and saw Star Wars this evening.

Meh.

I won't give anything major away but... meh.

I think that I'm just too old for modern movies. I miss dialogue. It's almost like Hollywood has returned to silent movies. Wait. I take that back. There was actually nothing silent about this movie. My ears were constantly bombarded by the sounds of weapons firing and stuff exploding.

Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but I prefer plot, intrigue and dialogue in the movies I see.

I have no desire to see this movie again.

Angela, usually I feel the same. I don't like many newer movies because of too much action and effects and too little story. But I wouldn't count EVII to those movies. Compared to JJ's Star Trek movies I found his Star Wars rather "conservative". I hope you understand what I'm trying to say;-)

Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie and overall I like it. Just not sure yet, how much I like it. And I think I will watch it again soon because I just saw it with german syncro yet and the syncro rather sucks.

Sorry, no time to read the whole thread, just wondering if there are any US citizens here who really wanna see Trump as next president?

I am seriously leaning that way.
I know some of his rhetoric is off the cuff, but I can think of no other person other than Trump that could finally cut through the bull in Washington, disrupt the 'good ol boy' network and possibly get our government to start working for the people they represent again.
Those in power are seriously scared of this guy, and not for his policies, but for his threat to their stranglehold on power and corruption.

Mark, I can't agree, but I respect your opinion.

Well, I don't really get it. It's not against the law but still they will arrest you? I'm not saying that homophobia is ok, but where's freedom of speech? And I especially don't get it in this case, he's a boxer, it can be part of the show and I'm sure police has more important things to do. But that's just my opinion ofc.

Something you can't see, hear or smell. A designer virus that spreads and kills before you can react and do something about it.

I would rather fear a biological weapon that let's you die slowly with a lot of pain and suffering. Guess I wouldn't (and couldn't) care much if it kills me immediatly. I hope you understand what I mean.

I can't get Boinc to a reliable state with ANY kind of OC going on, even the slightest bit. Is there something specific I need to tweak for Boinc or is it just a bad idea to OC for it? I have an otherwise fairly stable overclock, passed multiple stress tests for 6-8 hours each and the temps are also pretty comfortable. Running Boinc though, will result to random BSODs, from 5 minutes in to 3 hours in, I can't really replicate it. Anyone has had any better luck with overclocking and crunching?

PS: It's a 5820k, pushed to 4.5ghz. Boinc wasn't stable at even 3.9ghz, which is just 0.1 more than the default turbo speeds of this cpu.

Hi,

the Seti CPU applications, both Multibeam and Astropulse, are higly optimized. They utilize the CPU to the maximum and there is a lot of heat generated. Most applications sit idle and have time for the heat to dissipate. Thats why your OC is unstable with Seti.

You sure? I always thought the stock apps are not very optimized, so they can run on almost any CPU.
Anyway, I don't see any reasons, why the CPU would pass a stress test for hours but immediatly chokes on Seti. That's really strange. There are/have been ppl running Seti on oc'd CPUs. Mark and his famous machine for example. Salad Fingers, I would try Lunatic apps instead of stock.

I wonder why workunits are called "results" on the SSP? Just curious, because in my main language a "result" is usually a (end)product and not something that needs to be further processed.

My choices are pay for it or do without. I'm not going to steal it.

Or wait for the reruns on cable or over the air.

Possibly. But probably trimmed to get in even more commercials.

Odds are it'll be in Klingonese. ;)

Not really a problem:

I have that book somewhere. It's not really all that useful. Besides, the TV and movie writers did NOT stick to what was in it after it was published.

Damn, so it won't be all that useful when Seti finds some Klingons?
