I couldnt agree more, i joined SETI because of a personal experience i had, one would expect life on other planets no matter how intelligent or non intelligent when you consider the numbers in just in our visible patch of the sky.
look at all the odd one off discoveries thought never to happen again then years later with better technology and more people being aware and looking in new areas find these one off's are not one off's.
If it wasnt for my experience i would still say we are not alone or a one off, history has proven that one off's do occur more than once and time will show this to be true with advancements in technology, education, and people like the ones behind SETI and their supporters who genuinely believe put in the effort to make it happen.
why wait till the last few hundred years before the sun ends its life to reach out and find its too late to find either other intelligence that could help us relocate or find a new planet like ours to support our distant children's life and give us enough time to get their.
with the technology we have now its a start and will be more advanced as time goes by, much like the first computer, look where that technology is today and the discoveries made since then in the known universe and beyond as well as on and within our own planet, each year there are new discoveries of species in the oceans thought never to exist, where a one off or extinct. so why not in the ocean of space cant there be a planet supporting life and more than one planet supporting Intelligent life whom i know has already found us just as we will find them when time and technology are right but to get there we need to continue looking, (Government funding would help..lol)

Issue solved, i reduced amount of disk space available for Boinc from 40gig to 30gig, using at most 8gig.
thank you for your interest, i think i was asking too much of my Hard drive not allowing enough room for all my other programs.
I am hoping to get a new pc soon with a quad 4 processor and larger RAM (4gig if i can), larger GPU, 500 Gig HD, short of getting two pc's do you think having 2 quad 4's, larger mother board, RAM, GPU and larger fan etc. would allow me to do alot more from seti rather than just have one quad 4, larger RAM, GPU etc. Do you have any suggestions for my new pc i am getting built to enable me to do more from Boinc with seti, astro, orbit and milky way, i realize i wouldnt be able to do all at same time (short of getting a pc for each one) but would like to do download faster, process faster for each one. any suggestions would be appreciated, the only limit is cost.
P.S im still not getting the 3d screen saver showing the analysis being done, any ideas, im only getting BOINC and a progress bar with the name of what is being done, should i remove and reinstall Boinc.
Thank you,
Michael

I cant find where to ask for this type of help so i hope you dont mind me posting here.
I have Boinc version 10.6.60 installed, my pc is windows xp home edition version 2002-sp3
with AMD 64 processor 3,500 + 2.21 GHz, 512 MB RAM.
150 Gb hard drive.
i have had no problems till now, when i update my preferences a couple of days ago
a message came back from Seti@home (enhanced) saying i need 32Mb more disc space yet my disc space is showing i have 46.26 Gb free, used by other program's is 102.73 Gb, used by Boinc is 64.96 Mb Used by Seti@home 57.69Mb.
My Preferances are 10Gb for boinc and leave at least 40Gb free, use at most %100 of disc space and same for all other settings asking for percentage of use.
Is there anything i can do to fix this, i cant see why it is asking for more disc space, also my graphic screen saver has not worked since this issue.
could it be not enough RAM?
Thank you.
Michael

In addition to what Pooh Bear said, if you're looking to store more workunits locally on your machine, you can always increase your cache size. Note that workunits sitting on your hard drive are still only waiting in queue. The only thing that actually analyzes the workunits is your CPU, your 120GB of hard drive is simply storage space - it sits there waiting for the CPU to actually do something with it.

Thank you to all who replied, it has helped me. sounds like i would be better off buying more pc's if i want to do more than one at a time.i have 4 processors but i would rather not over work them, i would rather do one at a time than none from an overload. thanks again evryone for your help.

is there a way i could have my home pc do 2 - 3 analyses at the same time instead of the current one at a time, i have been with seti for going on 10 yrs now and if i was able to do 2 - 3 or more at a time i would have done 20 - 30 yrs worth. if each personal pc did the same it we would be that many more years ahead. if not then could the next upgrade have the option of how may analyses you want your pc to do. i have 120 Gb doing nothing and could be put to good use if i could increase my work load.
