Post: Now that SETI@home can run on NVIDIA graphics boards using their CUDA computing engine, will it run on this ‘Tesla Personal Super Computer’ too? Architecture is essentially the same, so I guess it should work without any modification or porting. Am I right? |

Post: NVIDIA site says "250x the compute performance of a PC" so 250 X 5,000 RAC = 12,50,000 (1.25 million), Wow. Is that possible? |

Post: I'll add also : On Windows XP, make sure to use TweakUI powertoy from microsoft to disable 'Optimise hard disks when idle'. This will reduce the amount of disk access significantly, lowering risks [That may be significant with only 256mb ram in XP]. You should then defragment manually sometimes though. Thanks for the tip Jason. |

Post: 1. Downgrading Operating System. Thanks everybody for your kind help and insights. Incidentally, I had already applied changes suggested by DJStarFox. First, I Changed 'write to disk at most every XX seconds' settings to 300 seconds from a default of 60 seconds in BOINC Manger preferences in advanced menu. Then searching for some option to disable chkdsk's default behaviour, I stumbled across 'Enable write caching on the disk' settings under Hard Disk Properties in Device Manager. Its ‘Policies’ tab states that "This setting enables write caching to improve disk performance, but a power outage or equipment failure might result in data loss or corruption." It seemed relevant, so I unchecked the box ... A little Google search also revealed a command line utility 'chkntfs.exe' which is part of the Windows OS. This utility 'Displays or modifies the checking of disks at boot time'. The Microsoft article on chkntfs For example: chkntfs /x D: will disable chkdsk from running on drive D: at boot up. My SAH files are already on a separate FAT32 partition, so I am planning to convert it to NTFS over the weekend to take advantage of chkntfs utility. ... but the first two changes are already showing very positive results as there are no aborted units in the past 48 hours despite several power outages :) I will monitor the system for next two three days and will switch to NTFS and chkntfs utility if the problem resurfaces again.
