Post: The biggest thing you could do right now to increase crunching performance is to start using the Chicken Soup crunching application for your specific CPU. I looked at that site, which of the following would I pick ? Downloads Linux optimized Seti@Home apps - Any released apps will be offered for download here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seti@Home & BOINC modified source code - You can always find the most recent versions of my source tarballs here - they are based on Eric Korpela's archives, which you can find in the Links section. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Test and Benchmark Tools - In this section you can find the test WUs and scripts that have been used to create the result comparison tables. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows SETI@Home apps - MMX/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 optimized executables. They are based on Eric Korpela's source tarball (you can find it in the Links section). The application version is 5.15. The current code revision is 2.0. Code Revision 1.3 (old) - Previously released apps. Code Revision 2.0 (current) - Version: 2.0 'Ni!' Anything with Intel in its name will ONLY run on Intel chips! Code Revision 2.0 (current) with graphics - Version 2.0 'Ni!' Anything with Intel in its name will ONLY run on Intel chips! Eye candy or raw crunching speed - you choose. |

Setting wrong ? Work unit preempted, what's up ?
(Message 424531)
Posted 21 Sep 2006 by CoolBlue87GT
Post: If it feels one will not finish before it's due date, it will prempt other results, and do the one that it thinks it will not finish, then go back. The unit it was working on, due date 10/05 was about half finished, then it started on a unit with a deadliine of 10/12, now it's working on the 10/05 unit again. I'd think it would stay on the 10/05 deadline before moving on. |

Post: I have 11 work units lined up, all of a sudden, my computer has preempted a work unit, starting on another. In the past, it would complete a unit before starting on the next. What would cause this problem ? I am only crunching SETI work units. Do I have a setting wrong ? Thank you for any information. |

Question, Is my computer crunching at it's max ?

Post: You might try one of the optimized clients. My old laptop with a Celeron 1.5, is doing work units from 35,000 to 55,000 seconds, your laptop should be faster. Exactly how would I try one of the optimized clients ? Forgive my lack of knowledge here, I do not spent full time on the boards here. |

Yes, that excatly what happened, I was thinking about when I switched over to BOINC-SETI. (I should have said credits, not WU's) Looking at my detailed stats, I did have some days with over 100 credits.

Post: Changed over to SETI enhanced long time ago. Some days the computer can crank out 100+ CREDIT'S, other days only do 50. The only other program running is "Ramdisk v1.3" (not sure if it helps) As far a the power manager, I have the display turn off & shut down the disk drive as needed. The processer "should be" working at full speed. The laptop on all day / night , using Cable modem. [edited WU's out, changed to CREDIT'S] |

Post: Awhile back a member suggested I start using "crunch3r" Seems my computer is taking longer to process wu in the last few days. (In fact, the last three days, no wu processed. I've got 14 wu waiting to process.) I'm ready to try "crunch3r" - Only need to find out how to use it, & where to download it. Looking for pointers from those in the know. Thanks |
