Your firewall needs to allow 'boinc.exe' and 'boincmgr.exe'. If you have not install a fireall, likely Windows built-in firewall is causing the problem. Go into the 'Control Panel' and look for 'Windows Firewall'

Your message "proxy authentification failed", normally means you have either an incorrect passowrd or userid specified in the proxy; or you left them blank and you need them.

But, BOINC is just a scheduling program. It controls which project is running and the download/upload of data. So when you attach to SETI, BOINC acctual downloads another program which is the actual science applications. SETI is currently at version 4.18. BoINC = v4.45, while SETI = v4.18. Two differernt programs. You can attach to other projects like Einstien@home, or Predictor@home, and each of these science apps will have a different version number again. As for SETI being suspened, check the 'Your Account' web page; accessialbe from the bar at the top of this webpage and see what you properties are. Like if you are running from a laptop on batteries, BOINC is setup to NOT run.

If you have installed as a service, and the XP machines are having a problem, you can open the 'Service' app and go to the BOINC properties. Click on the 'Recovery' tab and you can specify what to do if the service fails. Another thing could be, you have changed a user password recently. Since BONIC installs services using a userid/password, when the password changes the BOINC service will fail on an invalid password. So again you will need to go into 'Serivices', open the BOINC properties, go to the 'Log On' tab, and change the password, or switch it to 'Local System Account' so you do not have to remember to do this change.

In order to get classic stats transferred you need to have access to either your email address or password. Even if you can get you stats transferred, as the previous reply stated, they are just recorded in your account info. Everyone starts at zero when they begin using SETI with BOINC.

Push the 'Apply' button Go to the General tab, STOP, and then Start the service. Now you should get the screen saver.

After looking through the Windows firewall log I found that BOINC CC 5.1.x has proxy time out of less than one secound; while CC 4.72 was 30 secounds. So if you have proxy which requres auth. and the communication from the proxy to SETI lasts more than 30 seconds you might get the 500 error. If some of you are using CC5.1.x, than the instant time out will likely be causing problems.
