At first I didn't know what you were talking about. I live in Cincinnati, and until Berkeley makes it into the USA section, nobody here cares what they do. And they haven't, so--guess what--they are not deemed worthy of national attention.

I am so sorry you have been visited with this mishegass. It never crossed my mind that somebody--anybody-- would try to drag Seti@home into politics. We all just want to see the stars.
2) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : MAC BOINC catastrophe (Message 199427)

I downloaded Boinc. 4 months later my Seti module told me that if I was still running classic, & if I didn't upgrade to Boinc soon I would be cut off. So I downloaded Boinc again. Seti continued to insist I was running the classic. So I deleted the old Seti, thinking I would reload it through Boinc so as to get the new version. Boinc would not reload Seti. I wrangled with this some while, & ended up having to delete Boinc, too (or most of it, anyway.)

So, regretfully I am completely out of the program. Okay, I'm not a technician. But I am reasonably bright. Maybe you made the test too hard.
3) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : I need larger work units (Message 140887)

There is no way to change the size of the work units. As HaQuiX says, go to your General Preferences in your account. The default setting for "connect to the server every xxx days" is 0.1, as I remember. This means your computer will be able to connect to the Berkeley servers every 2.4 hours, so BOINC won't give you any extra units to cache on your computer. To increase this, just change the value to 1.0 or 2.0 - this means you would connect to the server every one or two days, respectively. If a Work Unit takes 6 hours on your machine, for example, with the setting to connect every 1.0 days, SETI would give you around 7 or 8 units. When the number remaining to crunch gets down to four left, the SETI will download another 4 to you. I'd suggest not going much above a setting of 2.0 or 3.0, as you run the risk of not returning completed work units before their deadline and you'd then maybe get no credit for them...

I'm afraid that I already have my preference set to 10 days, and yet I am still being asked to connect every 10 hours. Is there any other way to tweak the preferences?

My new computer ( a Mac) is going through entire work units in about 10 hours. I have a dial up connection, and cannot use an automatic connection. I have tried juggling my preferences, but cannot persuade the system to give me larger units that will take longer. How do I do this?
5) Questions and Answers : Web site : user profile page down (Message 133756)

I have been trying to update my user profile for a couple of days, and have been repeatedly told that there is a web server problem and the page is down. But on the main news board there is no mention of the problem. When will this be fixed? My new computer is going through the work units too fast for me to keep up.
