If there is a way to have BOINC start automatically when the PC boots up, I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to do that.

Thanks

2) Questions and Answers : Windows : Cannot connect to local host after having been connected for months (Message 232945)

There are several reasons this can happen.

First off, if you have not, reboot. This sometimes fixes the simplest things.

Questions for you: Did you upgrade to a newer version of BOINC recently? Did you upgrade Firewall software recently? Did you upgrade Windows recently?

BOINC 5 now has a GUI password, for localhost it should not need it, but might.
Firewall update (and Windows updating it's own firewall) can cause your permissions to sometimes be removed.

In the File-Select Computer, leaving it blank is usually best, but some firewalls make you type in localhost.

I hope with the bits of information here, you will discover what works, and can post what you did to make it work, for others to see.

If this does not work, maybe you can give us a little more information. Like errors, etc.

YOUR FIRST SUGGESTION (REBOOT) WAS THE BEST. I REBOOTED, AND LIKE MAGIC - WE WERE CONNECTED!?
GO FIGURE.

THANK YOU.

I do not use firewall software - use a router instead. The only new software I have added are a couple of Windows Security Updates from Microsoft, and I've added an external (Maxtor One Touch) hard drive and installed the backup software that came with it.

I also upgraded to the most recent version (5.2.13) of Boinc Manager, but still cannot connect to the local host. I have 2 other computers, and they are running fine connected to the local host.

I am very grateful for your comments. What about that GUI Password? I have never heard of that. Please feel free to call me collect if you can, or I'll call you. My phone is (727) 898-9009.

Thank you again for your time.

Sincerely,

Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, Boinc Manager cannot connect to a local host. I have checked the communications settings (use LAN) which are unchanged, but do not know what else I can do.

Can anyone help me on this?

I have been a seti@home participant since 1999.

Thank you.

6) Questions and Answers : Windows : The Annoying Pop-Up Dialogue Box - Can it be Turned Off? (Message 197586)
Posted 28 Nov 2005 by Profile Steve Woodrough
Post:
Is there any way to turn off the dialogue box that pops up every time the BOINC program connects to the Internet for additional data or to report work processed? I leave my computer turned on 24x7 and find it very annoying to have to stop what I'm doing to close the dialogue box which says nothing, except that BOING is connecting to the Internet. There should be a preference setting that allows the user to turn that feature off (or on) as preferred.

Thanks

7) Questions and Answers : Windows : Can Seti Classic and BOINC run simultaneously on the same computer? (Message 193288)

The question is in the title. If the answer is "Yes," can you briefly tell me how I can run both programs until 12/15?

Thank you.
8) Questions and Answers : Windows : Multiple of Computers in Same Account - But Not Listed in MY ACCOUNT (Message 193210)

Post:
I have three PCs running Seti@home while they are idle. All are now running Bionic. Why doesn't the number of computers and their IDs, credits, etc show up on the "My Account" page? Stated differently, what do I have to do so that I can monitor and see the results of all 3 computers simultaneously?

Thanks again.
9) Questions and Answers : Windows : Transferring Earned credits on Classic Seti@home to BIONIC Seti@home (Message 193147)
Posted 24 Nov 2005 by Profile Steve Woodrough
Post:
I have almost 8,800 units worked over some 86,000 hours on my old Classic Seti@home Account. When will I see a (or how do I)transfer those credits to my new BIONIC Account? I have sucessfully "attached" to the old Seti file to my new account; however, I cannot see where anything has been transferred. It's like I am starting all over again. I would appreciate your help on this.

Thank you.
