21) Message boards : Number crunching : Upload problems (Message 905735)

Hi,
since yesterday I see many upload problems with this error message:

"Mi 10 Jun 12:34:16 2009 SETI@home Temporarily failed upload of 03ap09aa.4853.1708.10.8.53_0_0: HTTP error"

The server status page does not indicate any problems, so what is going on?

Hey, sure, why not? I'll post my thoughts in here.

I was one of the first ones to mention that I only receive AP_v5 on computers that have that as an allowable application.

I remember it used to be about 20:1 for MB/AP that the scheduler handed out for random work requests, and it took a while before I actually noticed my lack of MB in the queue.

As a test, I set NNT, waited until I was idle and reported all of my tasks, and then changed my venue to MB-only. Requested ~2M seconds of work, and after about 15 work requests, I got nearly 300 MBs, without a single request saying "no work available". So there's definitely not a shortage of MBs due to all the CUDA people.

So I set NNT again, ran the ~300 MBs down to nothing, changed back to "allow any work" venue, requests 1.9M seconds of work, got 11 AP_v5's, all in one request, and that was enough to satisfy the cache.

So the point is, if you don't have CUDA, the scheduler doesn't want to send you MBs unless you demand them.

That's just my opinion/observation, I could be wrong about the problem/cause, but I definitely know the symptoms.

[edit: One more thing to point out.. "requesting 5230 seconds of work" results in "no jobs available", but changing my venue before the next retry gave me some more MBs. So yeah, non-CUDA computers apparently are not allowed to have MBs if they have AP selected. That's how it appears to me.]

I see the same behavior, you seem to be right.
23) Message boards : Number crunching : app_info.xml for CUDA and astropulse (Message 891568)

I've downloaded the Lunatics optimised app for Astropulse but inadvertantly removed the seti cuda apps.

Can someone tell me what to add to the app_info.xml supplied with the optimised AP app?

I asked the same question a while ago, but all I received were confusing links to dedicated CUDA discussions without reference to the combination of Optimized AK v8/Astropulse/CUDA. So don't be dissappointed if you do not receive an answer.

skildude,

thanks for the information! Where can I get it and does it also contain the correct app_info.xml?

How can I run both optimized apps and CUDA? My app_info.xml reads like this:

  <main_program />
  </file_ref>
  </app_version>
<app>

The AK_v8 and Astropulse apps run perfectly.

Thanks

I got a new computer and reinstalled BOINC. Since then I face this problem: When I quit BOINC the science apps continue crunching until I log-out. In previous versions of the BOINC-manager there was an option where I could select, that all science apps will be terminated when I quit the BOINC manager. Unfortunately I cannot find this anymore in version 6.6.20.

Please help!

P.S. I reinstalled BOINC several times just to make sure I did not mess up any options during the install. In other threads there was a lot of discussion about "service-installations" but I could not find any options during setup and install - and I cannot use the "run" option from the Start-menu since this has been disabled by the admins.

No stats updates for 5 days -> I will suspend SETI@Home until they figured out how to resolve this issue (going on holidays is O.K., but not without replacement!).

What's the issue, Martin?

Your credits are all there, safe and sound, and when they update the XML feed, you're gonna have a big day!!

msattler,

I am with SETI@Home for almost 10 years now and I expect a little professionalism by now - or at least some information about ongoing problems on the front page. It is MY computers and MY electricity bill (plus a few donations) that I offer to the team. Therefore it is MY decision to suspend or quit this project if they do not follow the basic rules of customer relations (not to talk about customer satisfaction).

Thanks for the explanations! In fact I had a major system crash a few days ago and had to reinstall the system. I then migrated from an external clone that I did just 2 days earlier. By that I obviously also migrated the "old" work-units.
Thanks again.

I received this error message on these two work-units: Task ID: 826965581 and Task ID: 826962533.

However, for both work-units the report deadline is May 20th and I reported it on May 2nd. How can this happen?

Edit: I found even more of these: Task ID: 826932875, Task ID: 826918573, Task ID: 826759895

In all cases the report deadline is May 20th!

Have you done computer host merges for those projects:

On jan 6, for climatepredicito just over 13000 credits added
On dec 31,for rosette just over 21000 credits added.
The above amounts just happen to be you total credits for those sites.

I have noticed, that whenever I do host mergers, all the credits get added into the new host and you get a big spike at the stats sites.

PaperDragon,

it is possible that I tried to merge some computers. However, this cannot explain the Climateprediction data for my Mac, since there is no Mac client for 2 years now. So how should it add credit from a Windows machine to a Mac?

Thanks to both of you. I do not use an account manager. I am attached to several projects, but only SETI@Home detaches itself from my office computer from time to time. You are right that it always restarts from 0 after that happens. However, it seems that the credit of this host is not completely lost but assigned to my other (home) G5. The hosts stats on BOINCStats is also very weird, since it lists projects that do not even have a Mac client. See my message at their message board: http://boincstats.com/forum/forum_thread.php?id=2853

One of my computers - or better: the statistics - is missing from the hosts stats. I have 2 almost identical PowerMacs G5, one with dual 2.5GHz and one with Dual 2.7GHz processors. The Dual 2.5GHz machine (3378715) is my office computer and it sometimes happens that it unattaches from SETI@Home. No idea why it does that. It's credit is missing from the host stats. I got both Macs in 2005 and they used to have approximately the same amount of credit.

It is also possible, that some of the credit is wrongly assigned to my other computer, since the total user credit appears plausible.

How can this happen and can anything be done to regain my credit?
