Well, this explains all the trouble I had ;-)
Just so future readers know, the link Arkayn provided downloads a file that is not in an executable format. Anyone who downloads it will need to go to the directory its in and type "chmod +x setiathome_7.00_i686-apple-darwin" to convert it to an executable before it will work.
Chris
To be pedantic (and you have to be in my profession... :-) it is executable but it wasn't granted execute permission. chmod doesn't change the file, it changes a flag in the file-system.

Works now! The problem was obviously the v7 application. After resetting the project it automatically downloaded all necessary files. After the backup of the v7 app I reinstalled the v6 optimized and the AP optimized apps as well as the app_info file, reinstalled the BOINC client - and viola!

juan,
the client shows the same messages for Collatz and PrimeGrid - and both work perfectly well.
I have an ATI-GPU and therefore it is logical, that it can't find any GPU workunits designed for CUDA.
My guess is, that there is some mistake in the syntax of the app_info file but I cannot find it and it works fine on my second Mac at home.

Does that give enough additional information?
I restarted both. It's the 8-core machine that gives me trouble, the 8(16)-core machine is doing fine with the same app_info file.
The first lines read:
<core_client_version>7.0.65</core_client_version>

<message>
too many exit(0)s
</message>
<stderr_txt>
dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/9/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid
Process creation (../../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_7.00_i686-apple-darwin) failed: errno=13
...
Any ideas?
Did you restart BOINC client or only the BOINC manager ?
Which of your two Macs (probably the eight core host, as the 16 core got sah_v7 wus) ?
What do the first ca. 20 lines of event log look like ? Was the app_info.xml accepted without errors ?
That were the first lines from your stderr, like it can be found in the results list. I meant the "Event log", which can be reached through BOINC manager in Advanced View, menu "Advanced/Event Log". That should open in a new window.
The Process creation error points to a permissions or ownership problem. Stop the BOINC client and rerun the "BOINC installer.app" again. That should solve such problems.
Alternately you could set the permissions manually, using the Terminal.app (see Launchpad).

app_info for Mac OS X ref. SETI v7
(Message 1383009)

Post:
You manually downloaded the app from the seti server? did you set the right permissions on it? What error are you getting?
I don't see an issue with the entry but I don't run on Mac.
If arkayn's response seemed a bit harsh - there are a few idiots around who try to process V7 with the v6 apps under anon. Either because there is no optimised v7 app for their platform or because v6 is 'faster'.
The part which has me confused is why would you even need the old v6 app once your done with any work specifically assigned to it? My understanding was the v7 app will process any v6 resends it comes across.
Yes, I understood this. However, if there are any v6 WUs being resent and you still have the v6 app, that one is appr. twice as fast as v7.
Furthermore AP-optimized is also MUCH faster than the stock application.
@William: this is a known problem and I always reinstall BOINC after I do any manipulation in the SETI folder (otherwise it will give a permission-error).

I know that, but usually there is a way to add a string to the app_info that will recognize the v7 application and run it alongside the older ones (in case there are still some WUs around for v6, but AP 6.02 optimized should definitely work).
I tried it with this, but that did not work:
<app_info>
<app>

</app>
<file_info>

<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>603</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>seti_enhanced-i386-v8-xeon-nographics</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app>

</app>
<file_info>

<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>astropulse_v6</app_name>
<version_num>602</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>ap_6.02r561_OSX64</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app>

</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_v7</app_name>

Hi,
I used the optimized versions of Astropulse and SETI@Home with this app_info file:
<app_info>
<app>

</app>
<file_info>

<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>603</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>seti_enhanced-i386-v8-xeon-nographics</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app>

</app>
<file_info>

<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>astropulse_v6</app_name>
<version_num>602</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>ap_6.02r561_OSX64</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>
How do I have to modify this, so that it will also run v7 workunits?
Thanks!

These settings work fine now. HOWEVER: all my other projects cannot connect then :-(((
Try several times to [Update] - sometimes a proxy can refuse to connect just for a moment.
I tried now - and it works:
11/10/2011 11:23:37 Using proxy info from GUI
11/10/2011 11:23:37 Using HTTP proxy 216.24.193.211:8080
11/10/2011 11:23:47 SETI@home update requested by user
11/10/2011 11:23:51 SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
11/10/2011 11:23:51 SETI@home Not reporting or requesting tasks
11/10/2011 11:23:54 SETI@home Scheduler request completed
Also look if this graph shows NO traffic for everybody:
http://fragment1.berkeley.edu/newcricket/grapher.cgi?target=%2Frouter-interfaces%2Finr-250%2Fgigabitethernet2_3;view=Octets;ranges=d
If green is Low (near zero) - NO one can Download
If blue is Low (near zero) - NO one can Upload or make Scheduler request

Same answer. It applies to everybody, they're not picking on you specially.
Richard,
I pointed that out because the last message is 3 weeks old and another user posted "they are back.". Well, mine are'nt back.

The export to the Stats sites is done from the Replica Database. This has been off line since the restart on Thursday. But before the Replica can be brought back up the wonk in the the Main DB has to be fixed.
T.A.
Any news when the stats will be updated/exported? It's more than 2 weeks now since the last export.
