These are the messages I get in BOINC. What happens in my case is that the download occurs successfully to 100%. Therefore it isn't a firewall problem or a DNS problem. But at the final step it fails in its communication with Berkley. THe last occurance blocked all BOINC comunication off the machine so I had to yet again delete the downloads in order to get work from other projects.

Seti is currently down. They had a server crash a few days back & now the scheduler keeps locking but there are plenty of other projects out there to do. The trick with Boinc is to join at least three projects. Usually at least one will be up. But even then sometimes, well, it can get kind of quiet.

UnL33T do you have one laptop or two? I suspect your problem is that you have one laptop and you've changed the setting on your original computer. What you need to do if that is the case is merge the two records (the option is at the bottom of the computer pages). After that change the setting again.

Occasionally the servers go down. Even on Classic Seti they went down. So you can either twiddle thumbs or signup with a couple of other projects & do useful work even though seti is down.

When I transferred I found Boinc to be faster. But then with Seti the real key to speed is cache size. Maybe Boinc Seti has a larger file size and is too big for the cache on the PC that you are running it on. My current PC has a 2MB cache but a 1.6GHz chip but runs Seti it speeds equal to a 3.2GHz PC.

Classic Seti has to be removed as by joining Boinc your old Seti account will be transferred. Also they will both be trying to use the spare processing power on your PC and only one will get it.

One oddity I noticed on my system is that when removing open office (1.9.100) it needed me to shut down Boinc Manager before it could do so.
So I'm wondering if you are also running Open office possibly with the icon in the system tray (on the bottom right).

I believe that you are having a problem connecting the manager to the daemon. In the manager, File - Select computer. Type in localhost. This should work.

If not, exit BOINC Manager (this will also exit the BOINC daemon unless you are installed as a service). If you are installed as a service, run the BOINC manager. If you are not installed as a service, run BOINC.exe, wait 2 minutes, run BOINC manager

I have not gotten any version of BOINC to work beyond 4.19. I've never gotten any version (4.25,4.27,4.32.4.43,4.44) to connect. The connection always fails. I have tried connecting to localhost and that does not work. There is no information given to give a clue as to why it fails to connect between the manager and the app. I guess I can continue to run 4.19 but I sure would like to run a newer version. Doesn't any one have any clues to why it doesn't connect. I am not running any firewall of any kind. I am running XP Media Center 2002 SP2. I have McAffee Virus checker installed.

I'm also having this problem(version 4.43), but with me it only ever happens at start up. When I look in the Boinc Manager I get blank screens. I then exit the manager using the exit command on the file menu. When I restart the manager using the shortcut on the start menu and check the messages I see a complete list of all activities that have taken place on the machine. This reveals that the Boinc software was apparently processing data successfully while the manager was shut down. So in my case boinc is working perfectly while the manager cannot connect to it. My problem is that I have to continually restart it. Prior to this I used 4.25 without any problems. I am not running it as a service by the way.

Unless you have turned off the built in firewall, you have a firewall that is probably denying the manager access to the daemon.

I'm planning something more extreme. In a couple of weeks I'll be getting a new PC. Originally I planned to copy the directory straight to the new computer, but I think I'll just ditch the files and just set the projects up on the new machine. In the meaantime I think I'll leave them as they are as they do eventually get the projects done.

No all the projects have work. On one occassion two of the projects had asecond work unit available. One of them then alternated with the one that only had one work unit available, thus delaying the other project past the deadline.

The priority settings must be set to a positive value. This in all cases is 100. The computer gives each project 100/300 of the time. This has been working ok for months.

I keep getting the problem that Boinc 4.19 keeps alternating between two projects but won't run the third even though there is work for all three. The three projets are Seti, Einstein, and Protein Preditor. The project tha gets missed varies, but over several hours I generally find that one of them hasn't run.
20) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC 4.19 and automatic updates on WIN XP (Message 79191)

Post:
This is caused by SP2. During the RC1 testing last year I noticed that downloads crawled along at 100kb an hour on a 512kb broadband link. I pointed this out to Microsoft and it seems that Automatic updates detect how much processor percentage you are using and if the machine is busy downloads in slow time. Otherwise the downloads happen at normal speed.
The advantage is that gamers don't suddenly find a Windows update popping up when they are about to shoot someone. But for the rest of us it is a pain.
