(Message 482477)
Posted 15 Dec 2006 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post: As far as I can tell... the update I have just run at BOINC Synergy calculates that the total work done across ALL projects (including Alpha Beta stage projects) just passed 20,000,000,000 Total credits! (Message 254422)
Posted 27 Feb 2006 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post:
One thing I would say to this... If you have 2 computers I would make sure that one project is on BOTH machines (eg 6 projects on one, 5 on the other, one project on both). This will ensure quick ligning up of things like CPIDs, stats etc if you are interested in cross project stats from external sites. --- Zain |

XML data export shut off?
(Message 251877)
Posted 22 Feb 2006 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post: Heh. Let me correct myself. There IS a hosts file but it is not gzipped like it usually is so it is almost 800 MB in size. I don't think Berkeley would appreciate us all downloading that at once :) Just like Toby my site ( BOINC Stats for the World - http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php ) has also recognised that todays update has that crazy large host file and the script backs off until the files (all 3 ie teams, hosts, users) are in the right format. I am sure its only a matter of time... never fear stats freaks *smile* --- Zain |

Bug in stats file!!!
(Message 98277)
Posted 13 Apr 2005 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post: Hello SETI Community, Let me clear up a few things here. "There are many ways to skin a cat" - anon. Most of the poignant points have been brought up here already. I am getting about 10 emails a day now saing "Your stats are BUGGY". I am sure Willy, Neil, Toby and a few others are as well *smile*. MOST (and its not ALL) of the stats sites rely on the BOINC Project XML that is created. SETI creates a series of XMLs and stores them in the /stats/ directory. Most of the external stats sites check to see if these files are new (checking hourly) and when they ARE new downloads them and then processes them. Note: * SETI currently only updates THEIR XML once a day (some other projects do it more frequently) * YOUR stats (by clicking in Your account or your name link) are REALTIME... so there may be a delay factor until your current to the minute totals appear in the XML files (and hence in the statistics on external sites) * Stats on external sites REALY on the XML files and are HENCE NOTE REAL TIME. That said, there does seem to have been an issue with the XML udpating properly the last few days. I know the developers have been working on a new version of the client side servers, so MAYBE something has changed! What everyone is noticing is their numbers just arent adding up. Now why are SOME sites still working? Well thats easy too. Some sites STILL download the HTML pages (like this page) and suck the information out of those to fill their databases! Its a horribly inefficient way of doing it... and one the BOINC developers discourage. There is only one advantage of this... you can get REAL TIME stats. Big disadvantages though including down ALL web pages for everyone else (and big bandwidth issues). Take Digger for example (since he posted recently) His profiles says the following (REAL TIME STATS) http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=8080336 SETI@home member since 23 Mar 2005 Total credit 2,057.00 The current XML says this (THE OFFICIAL XML DUMP in /stats/) 8080336 Digger United States 1111537689 1711.840977 ... And my stats pages say this (note the LAST XML update time is 16 hrs ago!) http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/boinc-stats.php?id=8080336&project=sah BOINC XML Data last updated: Tue 12 Apr 19:11:19 2005 GMT (16.80 hours ago.) Total credit: 1,711.84 results So you can see... many things are contributing here... BUT the XML stats do match the stats on my external page (and if you check also on www.boincstats.com etc) I hope this clears up a few things... and am more than happy to answer anyones questions regarding these matters. Might I just add as a final note... EVERYONE here is in BOINC for the long term. If some stats are out for a few hours its not THAT big a deal. Once daily updates of the XML is a valid thing considering how CPU intensive it is for SETI (thats SETI servers, not my servers). Its not THAT crucial to get up to the minute stats when your crunching for years! Cheers from Sunny Albury NSW Australia, Zain Upton --- |

URL change for BOINC World Stats from
(Message 80856)
Posted 19 Feb 2005 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post: Hello all, Just a note to say 2 things. 1. (The one most of you will most care about)... the statistics site "BOINC Stats for the WORLD" has changed its url to http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php. The good news is all old pages which have www.setisynergy.com/stats/blah.php will still work... so you DONT HAVE TO change your bookmarks if you dont want to. 2. The BOINC teams "SETI Synergy" will now be known as "BOINC Synergy". This name change has not been something we as a team have rushed into... in fact I have been mulling over it for over 3 months now. While our members still crunch hard for SETI@Home our team has embraced the BOINC projects... and now TRULY emcompasses ALL BOINC projects. 90% of our members run 2 or more BOINC projects. SETI Synergy did reflect our long history... but didnt reflect our dedication to ALL BOINC projects and the future. My feelings were we had to keep the word SYNERGY. This word to me really reflects our team, the members from all around the world, the dedication, the spirit. BOINC Synergy is so simple... and while it doesnt SLIDE off the tongue like Seti Synergy... I think its a GREAT name, and when people see then name they will make the very quick connection with our old name. Anyway... rambling as usual. Just though some of you may want to know about the URL changes. Cheers, Zain --- |

Dumb question...
(Message 74330)
Posted 26 Jan 2005 by [B^S] Zain Upton Post: Dont worry about "dumb" questions... we have ALL had them from time to time. The place your looking for is http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/home.php The link is "ACCOUNT" at the top of this page, or "Your Account" at the top of the main page. There are of course then 3rd party sites (like the one I run) which also show you your stats... but most of these will NOT show you until you have been VALIDATED with some work (currently your still on zero credits) Another place... http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=7826331 Cheers, Zain --- |

Looks like one of the sessionIDs from the old site is still active for you (but not others). Jump into that broswer (eg IE), delete your cache and get out and then reopen. If that doesnt work then delete your cookies, close and reopen. Let me know if your still having trouble (either here or our Forum) Z |
