Thanks, Pascal

Yes, finally (I know it took a long time) I see what you are saying. Windows98 is very clearly not supported by classic climateprediction. I just happen to have come in from the point of view of BOINC and there is no clue whatsoever on that route that it will not work.

Win 98 and nt are not on the approved or supported list.........for CPDN and BIONC

Pascal, tell me where you get your information from. The words below are copied from the system requirements of climateprediction.net, just two minutes ago. I believe that Windows 98 counts as above Window95!

The BOINC core client is available for the following platforms:

Just got home. Window XP SP2 laptop running BOINC 4.07 has a "running" work unit which is frozen at a CPU time of 00:00 and the climateprediction model is still showing preempted. So nothing useful has been happening for several hours. Easy to get it working again but is this only happening with service pack 2?

BOINC 4.07 also trashes CPDN models but seems to fix the problem with setia@home work units which were previously bringing Windows 98SE systems to their knees. So far I have yet to see a warning not to dowload to Windows 98 systems on either site. It's about time somebody did something about that.

It's working? What's working? Sure it uploads and downloads units but schedulers do not respond, pending credit is still switched off, the "work" page does not represent reality; messages from the website are pitifully brief, infrequent and and out of date before they get posted. Half my team has already packed up and started saving electricity. Setiathome classic was a world class best and the University of California is, arguably, where the modern computer era was invented. So I'm not criticising people trying their best. This is simply not up to standard.

Why do people keep talking about whether you like BOINC or not? What's to like or dislike about something that simply fails to function. For all practical purposes it does not exist. You were probably lucky not to get any work units because you can't upload them when they are finished anyway. Then the whole shebang disappears and you find you have duplicate machines. I think you are being far too tolerant of a complete shambles.

I keep seeing messages that the project is up and running but it never works. Schedulers never respond. Is there anyone out there who can claim that it appears to work even sometimes?
