Getting messages in the event log I have never seen before:

31/03/2018 21:22:32 | SETI@home | Temporarily failed download of blc01_2bit_guppi_58185_72022_LGS_3_off_0027.11251.1636.22.45.181.vlar: transient HTTP error
31/03/2018 21:22:32 | SETI@home | Backing off 00:07:43 on download of blc01_2bit_guppi_58185_72022_LGS_3_off_0027.11251.1636.22.45.181.vlar

I have seen the SETI@home news item I guess this is related to the database slowness. My question is will these eventually download or do I have some zoombie tasks? I only run SETI@home intermitmentally now so if I stop SETi@home for a day or so will these stil download or will they be stuck for ever?

I think my initial problem was that I had not crunched for a few months and the scheduler was only giving me one at a time until I had enough work units validated. I seem to get plenty of WUs now.

But, I have another problem. I would like to switch to just Astropulse only. I used to do that on the SETI@home preferences web page and set AstroPulse v7: yes, SETI@home v8: no. I have done this today for all the different groups but I still get Seti@home work units. Does this setting still work?

Resouce Share for SETI@home is at 100, other projects at zero used to fill cache during SETI@home maintenance breaks.

Unhid my PC.

A little puzzled by my small cache size but a least it is larger today.

Thanks for the advice, alas changing my Store at least etc has no effect, I still only have one wu in the cache.

I vaguely remember it ran like this just before I stopped running BOINC, I am guessing I changed a setting but I cannot find what could be causing this. It is if my task limit is 1 not a 100.

Hi

Took a break from Seti@home for a few months. Just started BOINC back up again and I can only get one workunit in the cache. I have increased store at least under computing preferences to the values I used to use for a full cache but I still get just one wu in the cache.

I suspect I changed a config parameter somewhere before I took the break, but now I cannot find anything obvious that I may have changed.

Anybody any suggestions why I just get one, lonely wu in the cache?

So, with that long background, my basic question is perhaps simple:
Where can I find documentation of those parameters?

The documentation can be found in

C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\docs

The parameters should be tailored to a specific type of graphics card and if you have a dedicated cruncher PC or need to use it as a general-purpose PC.

Intersellar water - what an amazing thought on how building blocks of life could be carried across solar systems.

SETIspirit  News  Update

I am very happy to announce the new SETIspirit release v5.0.0, which will be available soon on 24. December.
It's a new major release with lots of improvements and new features.

I wish you all a happy and merry Christmas.

Regards,
Dirk

Great news, an early Xmas present.

Something for the next release maybe. Could SETIspirit also plot the position of POGS work units? Looking at the POGS website there is a plugin for some desktop astronomy package so I guess there is an API that could be used.

Thanks David,
I will look at this, but my app_info is large (standard one created by Lunatics), so not really sure which applications I need to create in the app_config file, so I will leave this alone as I do not know what I am doing and shall probably break it :-)

Thanks

Yes the Lunatics one is complex. Try just creating an app_config for Milkyway and limit it to 8 CPUs. Then SETI would get at least 8, and if Milkyway had no work SETI would run on the other CPUs until some work became available again at Milkyway.

Would only need to contain

<app_config>
<project_max_concurrent>8</project_max_concurrent>
</app_config>

That's the approach I posted earlier that I think the project should take. Just take the project down and fix the servers properly and take as long as needed. I can't handle the constant band-aid up and down lately.

+1, I think the SETI team should do that and get ready for Parkes by taking things offline and doing whatever is needed to get the Database sorted.

Looks like my PC survived the night and managed to keep enough work in the cache. When I went to bed the cache was very low and I was half expecting my backup project to kick in, but in the end it didn't.

No, same hear. Communication deferred for 20 minutes. Hopefully not a sign of database issues.

You could also try a custom app_config.xml for each project and set max_concurrent (the maximum number of tasks of an application to run at a given time) to 8. This would split your CPU 50:50.

I used to use this when I ran POGS as it was so aggresive with deadlines and timeout between connecting to the server that it pushed SETI out.
