... Being curious about what OS ppl run, and their computer hardware isn't comparable to inquiring about what type of car you drive. I guess someone could stalk you by knowing you have a ford pinto, but knowing that you run windoze ME on your dad's packard bell doesn't do much for me. I think alot of you have illusions of grandeur and or unmerited paranoia!

is there an optimized windows version of setiathome_4.18_windows.exe (for barton core XP-M and Pentium M) available?

I should probably research this as i'll probably turn out to be wrong Skip, but i believe 4.18 is the same as the previous app except this has working screensaver graphics.
The optimized apps tend to leave the whole graphics part as part of the optimization.

Now i could be wrong ( and it would probably cause you to lose even more work units ), if you detach and reattach the problematic host it will reattach with a new host profile and the full quota ?

It's pretty simple really: with higher demand (especially after several long outages) the splitters are barely keeping up. It's hard to tell from the server status page, but the # of results left to send is anywhere from 0 to 50 at any given time, meaning we're creating work that is immediately being snatched up by hungry clients. Also note the transitioners are falling behind - they are the guys that turn split work into available work to send out.

So basically as the weekend draws near and activity quiets down a bit, I'm sure we'll see bad queues drain and good queues fill.

- Matt

Just curious, with the optimized client basically doubling the output on most of my pc's and many other peoples are you noticing a big increase in the throughput of wu's ?

Sorry, I was referring to this in one of your previous posts. The thread i linked contains two posts one questioning your programming skills and one your voting history.

Dear co-crunchers!
I like the new outfit of the server status page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html
What's your opinion? Showing different colors for the state of each server/program (running/maintenance/failure) is quite self explanatory, isn't it?

It is! But are these colors an automatic thing or do they require a human to change them when something happens?

Mike

Not sure, i believe it's still in alpha ;)

General update: There were some brief semi-outages over the weekend, all having to do with BOINC server software development. We added two fields to the hosts table that enable us to better calculate how much work to send to users (and prevent sending too much work that cannot possibly get finished before particular deadlines). Some server processes had to be recompiled/reinstalled to accommodate these new fields.
Currently the validate processes are all failing. This is probably a separate issue that was noticed on Sunday and is currently being diagnosed/debugged. While not a show-stopper by any means, the validation queue will grow until this is fixed (resulting only in a delay of granting credit, not a loss in credit), and then the queue should quickly drain.

In order to keep up with the growing user base and the increasing demands for work, another splitter has been added to the splitter pool: a Sun Ultra 10 called "gates." We're sure people will ask about the name so let's nip this in the bud. It our pool of PC's we had one called "gates" which slowly fell into disuse as it aged. One day a Sun Ultra 10 needed to get called into service ASAP, and instead of waiting for the powers that be to grant us a new IP address, we simply shut down that PC for good and reused its address. Not all that interesting, really.

We're seeing a conflict with the way that the beta (which is using a newer BOINC version than setiathome) is interacting with the public project. We've turned off the beta until we can get the SETI@home boinc software updated.

Might have something to do with the news over on the beta site

By the way my athlon 1000 is MMX and 3DNow capable. If anyone knows if the -0 is what I need please let me know. I know for Seti@home someone told me to use the plainvanilla as it was a bit faster than the -0. Since their is no plainvanilla for seti@home beta I assume the best choice would be -0.

I'm not sure about the athlon but i am using the -0 as the plain vanilla for all my P2's with mmx and it's working very well indeed =) ( thanks again tetsuji ! )
