Many thanks for the quick replys, I was starting to panic thought I was losing the credit.
Now if I could only get the optimised version to work?

I have just uploaded 2 wu, when I have gone to check how many cobblestones I was awarded - I can find NO record of them.

This happened to me a few days ago when I sent 10 wu for credit

Anybody have an idea what is happening

I've been trying to use the optimised version of SETI on my Dell with no luck. Just uploaded my first set of 10 results, all with error. Have just went back to check what the error was and they have already disappered. Have I made a mistake on instalation or what.

Can anybody talk me through how to install it correctly?? Would it be better to do this off list, or is anybody else interested.

Many Thanks

I have a PM 400/AGP running 10.3.9 and I don't understand any of this. I have never used the Terminal so I'm a bit lost. Can anybody explain how to use this optimised version of SETi that even an idiot would understand

The "Alpha 4" version I'm using, available from this page, was very easy to install: just a matter of stopping BOINC, replacing the default app with this one (make sure you get the G4/10.3.9 version), including its app_info.xml file in the folder, then restarting BOINC. Only the newer versions for G5s running Tiger seem to require the complicated installation procedure being discussed in this thread.

If you need more detailed instructions, feel free to ask ... at the moment I'm on my home system, whose OS is too old to run BOINC :( so I can't look at my installation to give you exact file & folder names right now. It would probably help if you can tell us which BOINC client you're using, as the two GUI versions (Manager & Menubar) may require slightly different procedures.

I'm still having trouble getting this to work (using BOINC 5.2.13). Everytime I run the wu's they go very fast & all of them have an error (computing & downloading)

Can you talk me through how & what to install. This can be done off list, unless other Mac users would find the info useful

I'm also having trouble getting the PC version to run

Why not just open terminal type cd then a space and then drag the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder onto terminal and then hit return. When you drag the folder onto terminal this puts the path to that folder in terminal. After that you can use the mv command to rename the file. This avoids all the typing and possible misspelling. Just make sure that the terminal window is active and not the window you dragged from when hitting return.

I just tried this and noticed that there is not a tilde infront of the slash before library. Does this make a difference. I did an ls and it listed all the files in that folder. Still quite a beginner a unix commands and the like, that's why drag and drop seems easier.

On another note. Do you know where I could obtain the bigfft for an imac G5? I tried the link on the MacNN forum for that one on ETs site and all I get is a blank page. Want to get it setup on my stepdads machine and don't have the 2 hours or so for his machine to generate its own.

If you are wanting to turn in more though. You might look into useing Crunchr3's seti app, and trux's Boinc client. Would help your p-4 turn out more work, and bring that machines RAC up by a little more than double most likely. Those you could do a little bit more with the same amount of machines.

I can't work out what chip version is in my PC for the Crunchr3's app & never heard of the Trux's version?

And for AKH54's Mac, Team MacNN has an optimized S@h app. I've been using it for a while with next to no problems and considerably improved throughput, under the standard (Menubar version) BOINC client. Just make sure to get the correct version for your system: each combination of OS (Panther or Tiger) and CPU (G4 or G5) has its own.

Can you give me more info ie Team MacNN???, Who are they and where do I get the optimised app (I have a PM G4 400/AGP running 10.3.9 (Panther) it's an old machine but I prefer to work on it)

Repeating earlier advice: go to the Commands menu and select "run always" and "network activity always available".

Don't know how I missed it, but my preference page was saying

Do work while computer is running on batteries?
(matters only for portable computers) no
Do work while computer is in use? no
Changed these to yes & everything seems to be working fine (apart from SETI being down)

Many thanks to all who replied to my cries of help

I'm wondering what exactly is suspended. Is it a single work unit, or the seti project, or the entire BOINC manager. The first thing to do is go to the commands menu and make sure "run always" is selected. That will eliminate any preferences problem. Then select SETI under the projects tab and if that says "suspended" out to the right, click the resume button. If that doesn't do it then look at the work tab and select any suspended work unit and click the resume button. If the button says "suspend" on either of the last two, then they're not suspended.

All tabs are clear apart from the work tab which says Activities Suspended. Everything has stopped working now, will not cruch at all.
What I have noticed on sreensavewr startup I get "Conection to BOINC" then " Can't connect as BOINC is suspended"
