1) Message boards : SETI@home Science : Dark Energy/matter (Message 524774)

While listening to a program on matter/antimatter I was confused when it was said that when these to particles come into contact with each other they cancel each other out. I was under the impression that matter never disapears but changes into another form, so how could antimatter cancel out matter. Would it be more so that on contact they changed into another (for want of words) element. If at the begining of the big bang a equal amounts of antimatter was produced as matter, where has it all gone to. It is said that there is a extremely small amount of matter left in the universe, and this could be the same with antimatter, but we can't dectect areas where the antimatter is. The rest of the universe is made up of dark energy and dark matter. Would it be a reasonable conclusion to say that antimatter and matter have been coming into contact for billions of years and canceling each other out. However, it has not just vanished, but changed into another form such as dark matter being the element and dark energy being the result of this action.
2) Message boards : SETI@home Science : Can we Travel at The Speed of Light?? (Message 481813)

If we can't travel faster than light can light be made to travel faster than it's present speed? Light can be slowed down so it should be able to move faster. If light travels faster will we be able to see it. Is this whats happening with a black hole, that its spinning faster than the speed of light therfore light, time, space and gravity are all distorted. The present modes of observation are all based on technologies that go at the speed of light.
