Hola Diego! Long time no hear from.

Indeed. Been crunchin' without socializin' :)
I see many changes in the forums.

I see nothing wrong with that. Some of us socialize more than crunch, & I see you're a serious cruncher.

We've got Personal messaging & previewing. All the comforts of home.

I meant lately. ;)
Sometimes you have the time and sometimes you just don't.
Life is funny that way.

Aaanyway, thought I'd drop by and see what's cooking in ye olde cafe.

Hola Diego. It's good to see a Mav3rik here. There should always be Maverick if an Ice Man is around :)

Hello.... ice.... man. We meet again at last. You are right! Although I hate to admit it, of course. ;)

My app_info.xml looks like this:
<app_info>
    <app>
        <name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
    </app>
    <file_info>
        <name>Optimized_Client_filename</name>
        <executable/>
    </file_info>
    <app_version>
        <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
        <version_num>515</version_num>
        <file_ref>
            <file_name>Optimized_Client_filename</file_name>
            <main_program/>
        </file_ref>
    </app_version>
</app_info>

It's running smooth.
I'm not saying it works because of this, I'm saying it also works like this. ;)

I have found that ghost wu's seems to be due to optimized clients.

Umm … yes, more or less … have you not read any of the hundreds of messages on the subject that have been posted here over the past couple of days?

If you need to ask how much, you can't afford it.

Cuack!

Hey guys, seriously, could any of you explain to me what's this app_info bug about? I haven't really been able to read all the threads due to time issues, as in I don't have time these days.
When I dettached/reattached it seemed to kick start something, tried to download a couple WUs, then got stuck, then finally downloaded everything + the official client. Then I replaced it with an optimized one and left it crunching. Today I found it all stuck and getting several differente error messeges from SaH.
I assumed it was due to server overload or something, but now I read about a "App_info bug".

Read my lips: Huh?

:)

The big bang is a concept by which we try to explain something we can't wrap our minds around. And I don't believe in the biggie banggie.

Let me evolve a couple thousand years more, and get back to you.

Walla: Provided the idiotic greedy politicians and moron religious fanatics don't screw up our beloved 3rd rock from the sun before we can get off it for good, by the time our star dies we are going to be populating other solar systems in our little Milky Way's backyard.

A bunch of rowdy comets are colliding and kicking up dust around a dead star, according to new observations from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. The dead star lies at the center of the much-photographed Helix nebula, a shimmering cloud of gas with an eerie resemblance to a giant eye.

"We were surprised to see so much dust around this star," said Dr. Kate Su of the University of Arizona, Tucson, lead author of a paper on the results appearing in the March 1 issue of Astrophysical Journal Letters. "The dust must be coming from comets that survived the death of their sun."

Many many years from now, the man in charge of the SETI project will adress the crowd during the celebration after the first extraterrestrial signal was found, confirmed in its source and planet of origin, and answered.

At the end of his speech, this man will say something like:
"...and let's not forget about the people that stood by the project during the first stormy years, and overcame the frustration and the incertitude. We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them."

I know it probably won't happen in my lifetime. I'm just happy to continue to donate one more grain of sand to help build the foundation of what's to come.

Hey Matt, it's cool being the frustrated stubborn pioneer. ;)

For those about to crunch, I salute you.

20) Message boards : SETI@home Science : If The Earth nucleus stopped rotating... (Message 501277)
Posted 12 Jan 2007 by Profile Diego -=Mav3rik=-
Post:
I say that because I saw a show on the discovery channel that was discussing the Earth and they mentioned that our planet may look like Mars one day because Mars has no electromagnetic field and its core is no longer spinning. I did a google search and came up with this article about that movie and it also backs up the discovery channel show.

http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/b557359b9fa84010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html

Their reasoning is almost completely backward. The inner core rotates because there is a magnetic field, not the other way around. If the magnetic field somehow did decay away -- the one on Mars, for example, no longer exists -- it would take several thousand years for the core to stop spinning.

This quote is from the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research

Due to a lack of seismic data for Mars, little is known about the structure of its interior. Estimates of the size of Mars' core range from 2200-4000 km in diameter and account for 6-21% of its mass. It is believed that Mars' core consists primarily of iron. However, its weak magnetic field suggests that the core is either small and solid, or larger and semi-solid or liquid.

Heh, yes the movie was entertaining, but that's it.
Regarding Mars and the future of Earth, well we all already sort of know that it's not going to be a green paradise forever, and that we will have to "move" someday. Of course, provided we survive as a species long enough.
