Well, have had success on downloading 5.23 on 2 out of 4 Macs. My Quicksilver G4/733 & Mac Mini G4/1.25 have had success, but my PowerBook G4/1.0 "FireWire 800" & eMac G4 have been wanting to pull up 5.22. Interesting how they are picky on what they want to download. So far, though, 5.23 is working on the first two, all though it'll take about 49 hours on my slowest, the Quicksilver @_@ . We'll have to see how it goes on all :D !...

Common guys, calm down here. All of this arguing about who has better credentials, etc. is counter-productive. Let's try to pinpoint the problem and try to find a solution without trying to knock each other over. I'm not trying to be a forum moderator here, but this is ridiculous. It's about time one starts to ignore the other like adults. Geesh!

Why do Tech Specs always have to be (territorial) like this >_> ?...

Ok, anyways, one report I have to give is every time I quit the BOINC app and reenter it, the message log always clears, like this:

Thu Jul 26 15:06:59 2007||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.7 for powerpc-apple-darwin

I never really have a clue what's been going on. Before the log was always complete whether I quitted it & reopened or not (holding every message since start up of the computer), but now it always clears itself when opening the app.

Any clue why it's doing this now??? I think it began at 5.22.

Sorry for my straightforwardness ~_~ .....

So scratching my head over all of these posts above & around and the possible solutions, what's the consensus on 5.22? Is it safe to use now without any worries of oddness & no work being done when not looking, or is it still funky and odd??? Wondering if I should risk going back and run it again or not (doin' the Einstein thing right now). It seems to do whatever it wants whenever it wants for everyone here, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ^^ !

I thought I'd give the new version a try, too... but overnight I git mixed results. On one Mac (Power Mac G4/733Mhz Quicksilver 1GB RAM 120GB HD), no work was done alongside Einstein (sharing 50/50) except for the 7 sec. that I manually started (always run) last night via the BOINC app. Then when I restarted it in the app again this morning, the work time reset itself to 0. The Log seems to reset itself every time I open the app, too (something new when the zero status errors began).

On my second (Mac Mini G4/1.33Ghz 1GB RAM 40GB HD), no work had been completed overnight alongside Einstein.

On my third Mac (PowerBook G4/1.0Ghz "Firewire 800" 1GB RAM 60GB HD), 2-some hours had been completed, but that only works out to be part of the night since the app changes every hour between Einstein & SETI.

So I don't know what's going on still. At first it looked promising, but now I'm just totally cornfussed :p ...
Back to Einstein I guess until things are sorted out.....

This has started since I upgraded to BoincManager 5.8.8

So far I know could this happen with the BOINC cient 5.8.8, but it is not a serious problem and will fixed in the next stable relase.

No offense, but how long will that take :/ ??? I've been waiting for a half a year (or more) for a fix. My personal feeling is that a quick fix for the Macintosh should be a priority considering it is (and I believe it's only) a Macintosh issue. Sorry ^_~ ...

I noticed the stalling with BOINC on my Macs is when the very first SETI Enhanced downloaded onto my Quicksilver because I was sitting here when the first one happened. Too much of a variance to be just a coincidence. FYI.

A little different, but what does it mean (found it under pending credit)??? I've been having trouble with the screensaver acting properly... it seems to do about an hour and 15 min of work, then stops - never really getting anywhere. The problem happens on two of my Macs. Any idea on how to fix this??? Thx.
32) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : boinc stops working after ~45 min. on both Macs. Why??? (Message 420081)
Posted 13 Sep 2006 by Profile hanyou23
Post:
On both of my Macs (set to work only when not used & network activity always available), the boinc screensaver runs for about only about 45 minutes when not used. Every morning, the same... 45 minutes completed overnight. I'm completely confused why it stops, it just doesn't make sense... because it should run all night... there should be about 8 hours completed there! Argh~

Also, boinc keeps on fetching prefs from a project I no longer use (detached). How do I keep it from doing that??? I would like it to get the prefs from the projects I'm currently running (like seti), but I don't know how to tell it to do that. I've also tried the project manager, but it seems useless.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated ^^ . Thanks ^_^ !

Ditto. I've tried everything with terminal. Terminal meaning the end. I'm a geographer, not a computer scientist (that's why I use a Mac). I'm sticking with classic, though, until it's end... at this rate, I wonder if it ever will :p !

I've tried everything, but to no avail. I think it's stupid to have that % of total HD space used, expecially after you've already told BOINC how much space to use. "Ok, let's get out the calculator here on percentages..." I wish I could just tell BOINC, "Just download one *enter bad word here* wu like the old SETI@home" and have it at that.

*sigh & sorry again*
Eric

P.S: Why can the old SETI figure out that there's enough disk space but the new BOINC can't do it right??? Yeah, I know, it's in the numbers.....

Well, I posted this yesterday, but it somehow got lost in the forums cyberspace (can't find where it went *_* ). The URL is here: http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=1114 , but this is what it said:

I know this is a stupid question, but how BIG is a wu? I've brought my settings from requesting over 100,000 sec of work, to use no more than 3Gb of space, leave at theast 2Gb free, use no more than 75% of space, and leave me enough work to last me between 0.1 to 0.5 days. But I keep on getting this message each time I open BOINC:
