Much slower processing with SETI@home ver 4.5
(Message 32576)
Posted 4 Oct 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: > My processing time on a pentium 4 3.2 went from 3.5 hours on the 4.3 units to > 5 hours on the first 4.5 unit I downloaded to 6 hours on the second 4.5 unit I > just crunched. Granted my processor is hyperthreaded and I am doing two wu's > at once but it slowed way down since the upgrade. Plus, the wu keeps going > when it says 100.000% done. > > Good to know someone else has the same specs as me - 3.2Ghz P4 HT, WU's took about 3.5 hours and now take 5 hours 20 minutes on Seti v4.05. Also, I have noticed that the WU's keep crunching for about 10 minutes after the status bar reaches 100% complete. Prolly just a minor bug in calculating completion time. I suspect that Seti v4.05 is performing more calculations on each WU than previous versions (better science). Rock on! |

Now is the time to shutdown Seti Classic!
(Message 31057)
Posted 29 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: At this point in time now would be a good time to shut down Seti Classic. For better or worse, we are all committed to the BOINC Seti project. The addition of the Seti Classic hardware would likely go a long way to alleviating some of the server loads BOINC currently suffers from. I would also like to add that the BOINC project and forums has made for excellent spectator sport all summer! The passion people have displayed (positive and negative) continues to be engaging and entertaining! Rock on Seti! |

Woow Credit!
(Message 31052)
Posted 29 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: Yeah, the backlog of credits is catching up, and the credit bonanza is about over now. I received about (get this) 48000 credit in last 24 hours. I went from 101,000 to 149,000. Hehe, I had quite a backlog it seems. :) |

In fact, you can install it as a service just fine as well and use BOINCview to control it remotely. Look in your BOINC directory for boinc_cli.exe. |

Stats working on team websites.
(Message 30823)
Posted 28 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: If I understand your problem correctly, you are saying that although your stats are correct on your website, the amount of credit showing in your BOINC client is not. If so, this was caused by two factors - first, the schedulers have been down since yesterday, meaning your client can't update. Second, in the past 12 hours a CRAPLOAD of credit has poured in (I received over 14000 credit in last 12 hours). My account page is updating, which would mean any website pulling stats info would also update. This would explain the discrepency. Again, assuming I understood your original question. :) |

Issues
(Message 29774)
Posted 24 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: I have received a few WU's sporadically in the past few hours. Seems like I get them on BOINC's third or fourth try. There is work out there, but perhaps the current issues with the transitioner and scheduler are having an impact on their distribution. |

BOINC and Internet Access
(Message 28189)
Posted 19 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: Yes, allow BOINC to act as a server. BOINC needs to both send and receive (typical server activity) - send results and receive new work. Port 31416 is the RPC port BOINC communicates on. |

(Message 28134)
Posted 19 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: Since each WU is calculated three times and the average is taken to grant credit, I always assumed that the extension _3 indicated the WU number that had been sent for processing - 1,2, or 3. |

Schedulers down; Status is OK?
(Message 27997)
Posted 19 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: The schedulers seem to be bouncing requests intermittently. Of my clients that received a 'No scheduler responded' message, all have succeeded on their 2nd or 3rd try. Probably the schedulers are getting a big overloaded and can't respond fast enough. |

What happend to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/?
(Message 27995)
Posted 19 Sep 2004 by CyberGoyle Post: Actually, it looks like a DNS snafu to me. That said, http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/index.html resolves to 128.32.18.186 and according to ARIN, that IP is owned by UCB. So likely it is an editing mistake. Or else Seti received a signal from another world and it was a link to the aliens webpage. Doesn't appear we have a conspiracy today. Oh well..... |
