Played around with the voltages the past day and a half. Trouble is, when I manually set voltages in the BIOS, it locks the clockspeed in place. So either I set the speed to something high (say 4050) and then the CPU constantly runs at that speed, or I leave it at base speed (3800) but then no boost.

So I went back to leaving voltages on Auto and instead set the CPU Core Voltage to an offset of -0.1V. That results in still having the boost, yet lower temperatures all around. Core Voltage runs at 1.264V, VID at 1.300-1.325V

Does Rosetta support Android devices?
Yes, but it needs 1.5GB min RAM per Task (Many are only 400MB, but there are some huge ones).
1.5GB? Hmmm, here all my devices tell me they need a minimum of 1.984GB free. Which even on the device with 3GB of working memory isn't available.

The Seti screen saver would only show when you were running Seti work on the CPU. Since there is no work from Seti anymore, no screen saver from Seti can be shown either.

How much a bit of playing with the core voltage and VID voltage of the CPU can matter. My 3900X ran 54C at idle, at the stock VID (auto = 1.45V) and stock VCore (auto = 0.9-1.5V), 74C on 11 cores running various tasks under BOINC.

I set VCore to 1.2V, VID to 1.1V and am now running those 11 cores at a max of 55C. Can't even hear the fans on my cooling this way.
(VID is what you want the CPU to use, VCore is the max it can use)

Commendable that you try to help and all, but the 3 gig RAM limit you bite yourself into is of his AMD videocard, not his main RAM. That is neatly recognized as 16GB, and his Windows as 10 x64: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8881812

BOINC and Science United have moved to a new server, running up-to-date versions of Linux (Ubuntu), MariaDB, PHP, GNU tools, Mediawiki, and so on. Thanks to Jeff Cobb for overseeing this; it wasn't easy. Let me know if any problems.

At least it was a good time to change BOINC over onto a new webserver, which promptly went offline.
Good thing I read that David asked to report any problems. I think the server being AWOL since about 10am LT counts like such. :P

If this is on the system with the AMD GPU and you have one of the newer AMD drivers with Radeon Settings installed, it has a full screen recorder as well via ReLive: press CTRL+SHIFT+E at the same time (but watch out with BOINC open as it uses this key set to open the event log).

You didn't think this would go smoothly, did you?

♫ And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all, and I stood tall
And did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes, it was my way

Posted 30 Mar 2020 by Profile Jord
Post:
Usually when BOINC Manager is unable to connect to the core client, it's because the core client isn't there... it's crashed. Check in top if a process called boinc (sometimes called boinc-client) is running. If not, try either of the following before starting BOINC Manager:

sudo systemctl start boinc-client
or
/etc/init.d/boinc-client start

Mind you, if the client isn't running because it crashed last time, it'll probably crash again. You then have to figure out why it crashes.

You can also check if the client is running using
/etc/init.d/boinc-client status
or
sudo systemctl status boinc-client

Of course, last day of work issue and my BOINC runs 9 Seti tasks on CPU. What? Do these really take just 18 minutes per task? Wow. How far we got since P4 times.
