Try netstat -b to see which process is using port 1043. Should be boinc.exe .

BTW: The poster on the MSN security.virus NG just mentioned that Boinc was installed on his computer at the same time that 'someone' installed Google Earth on his computer.

I have asked, what other programs did this 'someone' install on the posters computer that he wasn't told about? We will see if he responds.

It looks like that this might be a case of someone with access to the keyboard taking advantage of the opportunity to add to 'his' farm.

I don't have the problem described in this thread, But I noticed that, in WinXpHome, in the Control Panel/ Internet Options/ Advanced, there is a section labeled HTTP 1.1

It has two lines, 'Use HTTP 1.1', and 'Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections'.

Perhaps the people that are using HTTP 1.0 do not have the box(es) check?

WinXpHome SP2 on a P4 with HT.
Boinc v5.2.8

I ran Process Explorer v9.20 and observed that Seti showed a Page Fault Delta of around 700.

Could this be that the FFT arrays are too large for the page size and so that pages have to be swapped to read/write the data?

One of the programmers might step in here to comment. :-)

[Haven't done any programming in 15 years, so a little rusty] :-)

Oops - same here, no work from project.
Server ststus looks good, and is being updated not stale info.
And the traffic graphs look pretty normal.


Looks like the server got 'kicked'. Look at the traffic graph now. :-)

They might have been working on the server.

One of my systems tried at 1:00 pm [CST] and 1:10 pm, and got a 'No work from project' response.

Then at 1:20 pm, it downloaded a WU.

Probably the best solution for a firewall even for those with only one computer is to get a router. All that I have looked at have firewall built in + Network Address Translation (NAT). Once bought, and in UK the cheap ones are less than £30, you only need to do a firmware update occasionally. It also takes load off the computer, and if you get more computers, the firewall is already there.



A better solution is to have a NAT router, to handle the incoming nasties, and a software firewall, to warn of programs that are trying to call out.

It would seem to be better for the Boinc programmers to change the "C" back to "c" on the server, than have all of the clients change their software.
