It's been running 95c for a long time anytime I do anything intense. I was worried about it at first but doesn't seem to be a problem. I checked and there are a few others whose cards run that high. I notice a post last night where someone got their temps down by loading the new drivers and this morning after running cuda all night my temps were 89c. That's a 6c drop. I'm also going to try RivaTune and I've had the case open and a fan blowing directly into it ever since the summer when I got higher temps.

Bottom line - while I'd rather not go through the hassle of replacing the card, this thing has an extended warranty until Aug 2011 -- so I'm not too worried about frying the card.

maby it will hold up for 3 years, but it wont hold up for ten, let alone 20. its FLOPS will still be usefull for years and years, even if it might be not so cost effective, it will still give you points. :)

also, as temp goes up the chance of the gpu making calculation errors increses, as i can see above your having problems with. :)

i´d say go with the tips in this thread; http://www.talix.com/Folding/Folding_Farm.html

i.e. cheap motherboard + cpu + ram and hdd gives you more monney to buy pricy huge grafics cards, giving you more MIPS/dollar.

ye, version 6.08 works flawlessly under 6.08 cuda, still a bit of the "stuttering windows" problem but faster and no stalling so far.

Just to report:

A user at CPDN has just posted that they sorted out a CUDA driver problem for Windows 7 (beta, obviously) by going to Microsoft Update and accepting a pre-release driver, also recommended by NVidia. He hadn't been able to get a working driver any other way.

Personally, I've always found Windows Update NVidia drivers a bit problematic on older systems, so I've tended to avoid them - but if it's the only way for Windows 7, you may have to do it.

cuda ran fine for me under windows 7 with 180.48 vista driver.

BTW.
I'm little curious and very restless.. I want to buy my GTX 2xx GPU.. ;-D
But I'll buy first, if the SETI@home-CUDA-app is BUG-free!
I have no interest to 'babysitting' my PC.. :-(

  • When we all could get a BUG-free CUDA-app?

thats what i wanna know.

i long for the day in a few years when i can buy myself a box for about $200 with 3 or 4 of thees, now topend cards, but by then a rarity, and have myself a 10kw/h folding rig. :)

without a readme, i just dumped it all in :\program files\boinc, and it seemed to do the trick, windows stuttering almost gone.

donno if its the optcode http://www.geocities.com/seti.user/opti.zip or of its the new driver or both.

it did not help stuttering windows problem. :(

CUDA causing XP to stutter every few minutes
The 3. post is in english and should explain the problem you have.

i know, i myself have linked to that page. and i dont beleve that is the truth sence folding also uses CUDA and does not have that problem.
